The welcoming of those young people who prefer to live together without getting married…

The Pope spoke to parish priests, that is, to pastors who have their hands in everything and who know well the concrete situations of people. No one knows the varied reality of life better than they do.

The Pope asked the parish priest 2 things:

to witness to the grace of the Sacrament of Marriage and its strength, to make people aware of the grace and the beauty of marriage. to be concretely attentive, without the attitudes of bureaucrats, to situations and people. The Church is a mother and she takes care of people tenderly. And this is why he asks for the welcoming of those young people who prefer to live together without getting married.

I’ve concluded:

Conservatism is the realization that many social/political/economic norms were achieved as the result of long, hard, expensive lessons - and that to discard those norms for simple personal want of understanding them is to doom future generations to re-learning those lessons thru the same long, hard, expensive processes.

While we don’t like to say that marriage is entirely about procreation, it is. Every other benefit people are trying to enjoy without procreating exists PRECISELY because a man and woman living together for a prolonged period have a strong tendency to reproduce. Remove procreation from that institution, and expand the institution to benefit others for whom procreation is a preposterous notion, and society will learn the hard way to re-enact M/F marriage as, again, a unique and cherished institution.

The big deal to God is that people love each other, not some legal construct. I am Catholic, but pretty embarrassed about it a lot.

I frequently get into shouting matches with Catholic Caucus people on FR. Not so much because I disagree with what they’re saying, but because they are naïve enough to think they can stop this by throwing treatises in Canon Law at Francis.

The Church is essentially a dictatorship. If Francis wants it to happen, it WILL happen, and no elegant Latin prose by any dissident Cardinal is going to stop it.

Their only choice at that point will be to leave.
Something they’ve been dumping on Protestants for doing for 700 years.

I once knew a girl named Gallagher who married a guy who just happened to be named Gallagher.

It was really cool. She didn’t have to change any of her ID or anything!

Just say a video of a reflection on the readings for the day after Ash Wednesday. The priest states that, “We cannot choose our consequences, we can only choose our actions.”

I wonder if our Pope is aware that he cannot choose the consequences that will one day befall him for his actions today?

Didn’t know about Canada law re names. Just seems strange to me. Confusing for children. Can understand if, for instance, a female doctor gets married and all of her patients, referral sources, licensure and internet info show her with her pre-marriage name. It is a mess to get it changed, particularly the internet info. For we normal females I just don’t understand. Oh well....

That’s why Pope Benedict made his famous “smaller, poorer, holier” comment. In order to remain true to its principles he knew that the Church would inevitably have to become all three.
Not long afterwards he was shown the door.

Yup. I think there was a bit of a coup in the Catholic church, and the current guy is not really a pope, but an anti-pope. Benedict is still the lawful pope. Given the extent of the homosexual and marxist infiltration of the Catholic hierarchy, I would trust nothing these people say.

That link must have sent me to a different article than most of the other commenters read.

I’m not seeing anything that implies. ‘Living together? That’s cool, stay that way. We’re cool with it.’

I can’t imagine why any Christian of any denomination finds this acceptable.

Read it again. He said to welcome them and "to witness to the grace of the Sacrament of Marriage and its strength, to make people aware of the grace and the beauty of marriage."

Christians are supposed to welcome sinners. It's not a club for the sinless. And we are supposed to live lives that witness our faith to others ... especially those living in sin.
