I’ve been to a bunch of countries, and if they require a visa, I get a visa. When I lived in Thailand, I was close enough to the Laotian border that I did a run up there every 30 days to renew my stay when I recrossed back into Thailand. I’ve even got an Iraqi visa when they started requiring them for contract workers in ‘10. Countries get to set their own requirements. Maybe the US will get there with Trump, instead of having liberals, mehico, and the un trying to set our immigration policy.

Very few Americans travel abroad as you have. Most will travel to EU once or twice in their life.
Since 9/11 most Americans know to get a passport, since it is needed even for Canada, Mexico, the Bahamas, etc.
I think they won’t wan’t the additional hassle and will change travel plans.
