No kid should be allowed to get violent and disruptive just because he is in a government school. The parent should have told the school to cuff the little brat even longer.
AlmaKing, some kids at seven are very difficult to handle. If their family situation included violence, that kid can be a terrific threat to others.
What’s worse, that kid having to wear hand-cuffs until mom comes, or him actually inflicting a serious injury on another human being?
I think him knowing he did that to someone would cause a lot of psychological damage. That would be far worse than a short stint in the cuffs.
LOL! Yes, life works just like it does in the movies. NOT! Please tell me you left the /sarc off your post by mistake.
I didn’t see anything that indicated who supplied the
cuffs. If there are handcuffs on campus I would guess
that there must be a legal basis for their use. Maybe
they can be only applied by security to outsiders who
enter the school and become violent.
I work for a residential treatment facility for severely
emotionally disturbed boys. As a private entity we are
not allowed to use mechanical restraints such as cuffs.
But if the size differential is sufficient then a
“basket” restraint may be used if the situation
calls for it. A basket restraint is applied from behind
and involves crossing the subject’s arms across his
chest in a particular way and holding on to his wrists.
You must keep your face out of the path of a head butt.
In essence the restraint acts as a straight jacket and
is often preferable in the sitting position. The kid
can be escalated for only so long so sooner or later
he will become compliant. If he re-escalates the restraint is applied again.
Prepare to do some serious paperwork when
the dust settles.
Ever seen an emotionally disturbed 7 year who is out of control? Whats your solution?
My wife was a preK through 2nd grade spec ed teacher for 35 years. She has had some 7 and 8 year olds who were as much as a hundred and 40 pounds and 5 feet tall. She is only 4’10”.
Right. Only 6’+ teachers who weigh over 200 pounds and have martial arts training have any right to be teaching class. Think how large the classes would have to be if that were the rule.
Good, if your kids are all amenable to that sort of treatment. Not all are. You seem to have led a very sheltered life, actually, at least in respect to schools.
“Ever seen an emotionally disturbed 7 year who is out of control?”
Regular kids should not be exposed to emotionally disturbed children.
Nice armchair - Do you quarterback from it often?
Mainstreaming is required.
Haha...you are funny!
As a cop who has to go to public schools for out of control kids...I can tell you stories.
Ever seen “Land of the Lost?”
When you have a 10 year old boy whomhas mental capacity of Chaka from that show and anger issues and some psychological issues that make him defiant beyond belief....you get teachers hit with chunks of concrete, bitten, stabbing attempts, and a kid who did all that and tried to jump from a 15 foot high balcony.
Public schools gotta take all of thise problem kids/broken human beings/ crack babies.
You cannot take away all the teachers’ ability to discipline then hand them those kids and expect the teachers to be miracle workers.
Just one of the reasons I put both of mine through catholic grade school
The hime my parents rebted when I was an infant....2 blocks south if St Joe’s on Hilltop in 1972 is still there...crazy...has same paintjob..probably same homeowner with a bukch if buckets of paint been saving ever since.
Just preparing the little twerp for what’s it’s going to be like in the future when he’s let loose on the streets with cops who aren’t restricted like teachers are in regards to their response to him. In all fairness, the brat’s mama probably needs parenting classes. I didn’t see any mention of the baby daddy. Most of these mammas today want to be buddies with their children instead of mothers. Sad life for the kid.
“Mainstreaming is required.”
By the DOE? Or the CPUSA? Or is that redundant?
Your children are not / were not in restraints because you did a good job as a parent.
This othet child was restrained because, for psychological problens, or bad parenting, he was a danger to himself or others.
When I say that I lived in Hilltop in 1970 with wife and baby to people from Tacoma I get gasps and “you survived??” It was , to say the least, an exciting neighborhood at times. I had just got out of the AF after a VN tour and was living on federal unemployment. We were sharing a big house with some interesting hippies. After 6 months, realizing that there was nothing at all in the area to do for a living we packed it up and drove down to Florida where work was plentiful in construction.
To Sir With Love ? a lot of 8 year olds in that ?
