Maybe you dont believe that trump is wondering how far he can push his base. It is naive to think he isnt trying to figure it out. There are some things he can get away with..but Scotus and immigration won’t be ones where he can move left.

My question has nothing—zero—to do with what I do or don’t believe. It has to do with your premise. You said there were too many people at that meeting for the report to be a lie. Well, what does it matter how many there were, if no one is talking? And how do you know someone is talking, if all you have is Fake News and unnamed sources?
My theory is that Trump wanted to catch the Dems flatfooted. They needed to respond to his speech. So he leaked a fake version, and the Dems prepared a response to it. Then he hit them with what he’d been planning to say all along, and they were deer-in-the-headlights gobsmacked.
