The Nevada Senate will soon consider a bill that would overturn Nevada’s ban on female genital mutilation, and Senate Democrats are tripping over themselves to vote for it.
Why would anyone support rolling back a ban on something Nevada law defines as sexual abuse?
That’s one of the questions supporters of Senate Joint Resolution 2, the “Equal Rights Amendment” to the U.S. Constitution, should answer before voting on it as early as Wednesday.

He is talking about the Nevada legislature voting on the Equal Rights Amendment. Remember that blast from the past some 30 odd years ago?
It basically said that you could not treat two people differently based on their sex. While it sounds good, sort of, it would likely lead to all sort of unintended consequences like women being drafted, no clubs or sports separated by gender, etc.
This author makes a similar leap. Currently in Nevada female genital mutilation is illegal. Since the ERA would take the “sex” out of the law, it would mean that all genital mutilation is illegal, or conversely, all genital mutilation is legal.
He points out that circumcision is basically male genital mutilation and if we allowed it, we would have to allow female genital mutilation.
The whole thing is moot. The ERA cannot become law - the time limit for ratification has passed - so this is an entirely symbolic vote. Since no Democrat would ever want to be accused of NOT voting for equal rights, Dems are lining up to support it.
It does nothing, it means nothing, it is a total waste of time.

The Nevada Democrats voting now for the ERA is a stunt, as are many of the broad hysterical claims - including female genital mutilation - that some GOPers are fear mongering with. Male circumcision is leal because it’s legal ERA or no ERA and female genital mutilation would not automatically be legalized, against laws against it, just by passing the ERA (which isn’t going to happen).
The Nevada GOP should quit the hysteria and focus on the identifying the Dim backed bill as all about the political stunt that it is.
By defeating Billary, Inc., and with Trump trimming back Obamacare mandates for abortion, EVERYTHING for the Dims is now about promoting a “pro women” theme and that everything the GOP does is “anti women”.
Nevada GOP should stick to reminding everyone the Dim’s bill is a political talking point prop, a stunt, and quit the hysterics, which don’t help the arguments against the stunt.
It doesn’t even remotely say it will be legalized.
