Schumer: Trump's speech 'detached' from reality
The Hill ^ | 2/28/2017 | Jordain Carney

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) knocked President Trump's first speech to Congress, arguing there's a gap between the president's rhetoric and his administration's actions.

"The speech and reality have never been more detached in a presidential speech. It really doesn't matter what he said. This is like the campaign, and he says one thing but as he governs it's another," the Senate's top Democrat told MSNBC on Tuesday night.

He noted that while Trump talked about infrastructure Democrats haven't "heard a peep" from the White House about a proposal they rolled out earlier this year.

Schumer also pointed to Trump's rhetoric on a myriad of issues—including currency manipulation, education, his budget and his pledge to "drain the swamp"—as out of line with the early actions of the administration.

"His government is filled with, if you will, swamp creatures," he added. "This speech, like his inauguration speech...It's sort of forgotten because everything he's done has been different."

Schumer argued that the "people are not looking for a speech" but want to know what the administration will accomplish.

GOP lawmakers have been quick to praise Trump's first speech with Majority Leader Mitch McConnell

(R-Ky.) telling CNN that Trump became "presidential."

But Democrats are largely voicing skepticism about the president's push for bipartisanship, arguing it doesn't match Trump's policies.

“President Trump’s speech had an air of unreality because what he said tonight was so different than how he has governed in the first 40 days," Schumer said in a separate statement.

You have to wonder who it is that Chuckie is talking about. It certainly wasn't President Donald J. Trump.

Most Democrats displayed scorn and disrespect; they groaned like stuck pigs when a dead African American youth was honored by President Trump, a young man killed by a vicious illegal criminal alien whom THEY were responsible for leaving inside the border. Many Republicrats, like the swamp creature McConnell who said that President Trump is NOW sounding presidential, will remain complicit with the damned Democrats.

Their heads will burst open much like the Martians in Mars Attacks.

Schumer - mentally here, but in reality, somewhere else.

Schumer is right. Trump’s speech WAS detached from reality.

Despite all that “moving forward together” crap, we all know Trump is gonna beat the left like a rented mule ;o)

Watched CBS for first part of speech as TV was already on that channel.

CBS showed full chamber at first with Dems sitting and never applauding. Then when it became obvious that Dems were being disrespectful and not willing to MAGA, CBS only showed Repubs standing and applauding.

Switched to Fox and they showed full chamber with Dems sitting and not applauding.

Dems showed themselves to be a bunch of Keep America Communist Assholes...KACA.

"The speech and reality have never been more detached in a presidential speech."

I guess Schumer doesn't remember Obama's last speech.

Schmuckie Choomer was likely pissed that he and the “media” got thoroughly punked on that pre-speech “amnesty” report.

No Chuckie, it was a speech well beyond your ability to envision greatness because you truly are a smaller thinker.

Detached from reality is hauling out a 72 year old former governor to do your response to Trump’s speech. Is that the face the Democrat party wants to display to the country? They don’t have any young members?
