My take on the white clothes is that they want to appeal to their looney base by “protesting” in some way, but were afraid to be too confrontational because it would alienate the more reasonable democrats. I predict no one will be happy with their safe move.

It had to do with “supporting” women’s suffrage! They were reportedly “emulating suffragettes! I guess in the scheme of things, it was better than dressing up like vaginas.
