I don’t think Trump is stupid (even though I question where he’s really thought this thing through).

But his representation of this to the public is misleading IMO. Since this was a, if not THE, cornerstone of his being elected, I’ll accept that, but at some point we need to get on track - and I think we will - and focus more on issues of repealing unconstitutional minimum wage, a job and economy killer, and letting the market economy free from government interference do what it does best - create wealth.

“Currently, when we ship products out of America, many other countries make their own people pay very high tariffs and taxes — but when foreign companies ship their products into America, we charge our consumers almost nothing.”

“But of course, that would reveal the stupidity of the whole thing.”

Again I think he is presuming we realize this hurts our international competitiveness. But this is not stupid , it’s common sense.

Currently, when we ship products out of America, many other countries make their own people pay very high tariffs and taxes — but when foreign companies ship their products into America, we charge our consumers almost nothing` expect for increased social welfare costs, higher incone taxes, destroyed industrial infra structure, loss of technical knowledge and massive unemployment.

Fixed it for ya Jim! No charge.

No, it’s not common sense to shoot yourself in the foot because somebody else does.

But as I say, I think at some point, we’ll get back on track: letting the free market economy work its “invisible hand” to create the “wealth of nations” (Adam Smith).

Free markets inside the USA are great, across international borders no so much. You should try reading the Constitution.

It is silly to think that international duty free trade is a Constitutionally protected right. Actually the opposite is true. But you've been told this how many times?

Adam Smith wrote that disastrous treatise during the pre industrial age.

But, in general, the protective system of our day is conservative, while the free trade system is destructive. It breaks up old nationalities and pushes the antagonism of the proletariat and the bourgeoisie to the extreme point. In a word, the free trade system hastens the social revolution. It is in this revolutionary sense alone, gentlemen, that I vote in favor of free trade.

-- Karl Marx

Adam Smith was wrong about a lot.

If all of you followed this thread last night, you saw the disgusting tweet by Dan Grilo. He was fired! Yay!

Grilo’s LinkedIn page says he works as a principal for the Chicago-based Liberty Advisor Group.
