Fox Business surges in ratings competition with CNBC
YahooNews/Associated Press ^ | DAVID BAUDER

Fox Business Network topped CNBC in viewership during the business day for the fifth consecutive month, an illustration of dramatic growth at an upstart network that began operation a decade ago.

FBN averaged 218,000 viewers during the hours between 9:30 a.m. and 5 p.m. in February, an increase of 59 percent over February 2016. CNBC, meanwhile, dropped from 212,000 to 182,000 in the same measurement, Nielsen Media Research said.

That's a startling change for a marketplace where CNBC was once considered the unquestioned leader. But CNBC has suggested those raw numbers are deceptive: the network stopped using Nielsen as a basis for advertising sales two years ago because the service did not measure viewership in offices or anyplace out of the home, and also short-changed its count of wealthier viewers that CNBC targets. Nielsen says it will begin counting out-of-home viewership starting in April.

Fox Business Network traces its surge to a decision in 2015 to load its daytime lineup with more of its most prominent hosts: Maria Bartiromo, Stuart Varney, Neil Cavuto, Trish Regan and Liz Claman — all CNBC alumni. The network also takes a broader view of business news than its competitors; during Regan's show on Tuesday, most of the talk was political, discussing President Donald Trump's upcoming speech before Congress.

"We get that link between Wall Street and Main Street but, more importantly, to K Street," said Cavuto, also the network's senior vice president and managing editor, referencing the Washington, D.C. address of many lobbyists.

Trump's election, and the recent stock market surge, have been tailor-made for Fox Business, he said.

I watched Maria, Stuart, and Neil everyday. They have more political commentary tossed in than CNBC...and that spices it up.

That said, I also watch CNBC during the day for market commentary.

Same here and I watch Stuart Varney!

I NEVER watch the STUPID FIVE (nasty troll Beckel has been brought back) or SHEPARD SMITH!

I've tried several times to complain about Shepard Smith, but FoxNews no longer has a link for complaints to management.

I used to be able to write directly to Roger Ailes. Now I send e-mail to BOR with plea to pass to management.

Shep was off the rails today during his interview of Chris Wallace. If that doesn’t get him fired, it’s hard to imagine what will.

Stuart's great...and Maria is brilliant and looks like Sophia Loren.

Love Neil, too.

And being from the South, I love Dagan McDowell. She's the only announcer who says "fanny" on TV. She's a cutie from Wake Forest.

Dagan probably has a cute "fanny"...there, I said it on the interweb.;-)

SAY WHAT???

No mention of Lou Dobbs, who comes on in my area at 7pm and Charles Payne who is on at 6pm..both excellent...they caused me to move over from FOX NEWS and glad I did...

fox news is just become unwatchable. even my favorite Bill Hemmer, the only ones left worth watching is THE JUDGE, SOMETIMES TURCKER, AND HANNITY..otherwise I'm on FBN...

Never watch the other cable networks and never ever watch the local alphabet networks..they are three worthless wastes.

OK..time to get ready for our POTUS speaking in the Nations Capital...prayers for him and his family.

WOW WAS HE EVER...

He was actually rude to Chris Wallace and cut him off and went to a commercial, said ‘stay tuned for more news', snarky like. ’

Chris Wallace was actually speaking respectful of the POTUS for a change. I had shep on here at my daughter house, where I am visiting...and was ready to throw the iron at the TV....lol then realized I would have to replace it...
Shep is a real jerk and very liberal and queerish..(old lady word)...

He is not helping FOX NEWS RATING AT ALL...

Maria is pretty smart. On election night the stock index futures were selling off hard. Maria said to buy. Anyone that followed her recommendation did very well. Plus she’s hot.

I can do without Neil (lately) but Maria & Lou Dobbs are great. What I like about their shows, is that they have a conversation with their guests rather than the two minute shout-down of each other.

FBN needs to sign Joe Kernen, that would leave CNBC without a conservative voice, and boost FBN further.

CNBC isn’t their competition. FNC is.

If Megan Kelly had any brains she would have patterned her career after Maria Bartiromo. Smart, hot and has been around long enough to build a seriously rolodex.

Neil has changed since his by pass surgery,,,

That surgery does change the person and the person's personality.

I can just barely tolerate Neil at times...and I use to love his shows and his advice...

Maria, Dobbs, Varney, and Payne = Outstanding. Have no need for Fox News except for Fox ‘n Friends a little in the AM, and a little Tucker and Hannity in the PM.
