From the article: “Further cuts could leave some agencies with not enough employees to do the work that’s required,”

It’s not the union’s job to determine what work is required, that’s strictly a management function, to include who does what.

There is a certain percentage of federal employees that literally do nothing. There needs to be a process where they can be identified and eliminated. The problem here is the “good ole boy” system will weed out the true performers and leave the slackers.

The overhaul should start from the top down.

To hell with the union as they primarily support the dem party.

An executive order created these worthless unions. An executive order could eliminate them immediately.

Just wait for the liberal outrage, when lesbians, muslims, and blacks on the federal payroll (because those are the only demographics that got hired) become unemployed. They will make it a HUGE civil rights issue. The administration had better get their ducks in a row first, so they can site employment stats, to show 1) How those demographics were an unusually high representation of the actual employee numbers, and 2) How white, Christian, or non-muslim heterosexuals were discriminated against in the Obama hiring practices. Otherwise, they’ll be slammed and sued, endlessly. These Obama maggots will not go quietly into that good night.

“AFGE President says cuts could leave some agencies with not enough people to do the work”

Oh what a shame! Just think how wonderful that would be. I just wonder how deep President Trump will have to cut the Federal Government to make a dent in the overall unemployment rate?

“Its my understanding that the fed gov was allowed to unionize by a JFK exec order.

Is this true? If so, . . .”

Yes that’s true. I believe Nixon greatly modified the JFK executive order with one of his own But I do think those orders could be terminated by executive order. Then...no more government unions.

Those that want to keep their jobs will learn this thing called “workplace value”.

Think of it as a sequester, federal welfare queens.
Only “nonessential employees” will be furloughed.
Unfortunately for most of you, that’s most of you.

Even FDR disapproved of the idea of Public Employee Unions.

They shouldn’t exist, so I’m not too concerned about Union leadership being “distressed”.

“An executive order could eliminate them immediately.”

IMO, it would be best just to ignore the federal unions and carry out reductions in force as though they do not exist.

Disbanding them would create a media storm not worthy of a fight. These unions have zero power since they cannot strike, so there is little they can do except whine about it.

Additionally, from what I’ve read, private sector union members are liking the idea of Trump bringing jobs back to America. I think this group would feel threatened if their public sector sisters were trashed.

The sad part is that you could do that and not one person could tell the difference.

There is a slight possibility that the gov would run more effectively.

” Probably everything the bureaucracy does can be done by private contractors at a reduced cost”

No question about it.

Sorry, it was just humor that fewer government employees would not be a problem.

I would bet large sums of money we could cut 50 % of the government workforce in many, as in almost all, federal agencies and nobody would notice...
