The French are set to elect a new president in April.
But those who are unhappy with the current candidates are making a last ditch attempt to recruit another contender - Barack Obama.
The Obama17 petition is currently circulating with the aim of gathering 1 million signatures to convince the former U.S. president to run for office in France.
About 500 posters of Obama's face have been plastered across Paris in recent days, urging people to visit the petition website.

According to a Wikipedia article on the requirements to be President in a number of countries, he’d be ineligible. France requires the candidate to be a French citizen.

France requires the candidate to be a French citizen.I'm sure that his friends in Hawaii can produce a birth certificate that says that he's French.

I wonder what passport he is using to travel?
As Senator and then POTUS he would have had a special passport but I wonder if they get to keep those as private citizens?

Doesnt he have to be a French citizen?

He could work that out or someone could do it for him - same way he got elected in this country.
