Dakota Access pipeline poised to flow oil within weeks as project roars ahead of schedule

After months of protest-driven delays, the Dakota Access pipeline is now running ahead of schedule and expected to be ready to deliver oil as early as next month.

Attorneys for Energy Transfer Partners said in a court-ordered status report Thursday that the final 1,100-foot section is nearly finished, which would enable the 1,172-mile, four-state pipeline to begin operations months ahead of previous estimates.

“Dakota Access reports that the pilot hole is complete,” said the report filed Tuesday in U.S. District Court. “The company is currently reaming the hole — i.e., making it larger in order to accept the pipe. As of now, Dakota Access estimates and targets that the pipeline will be complete and ready to flow oil anywhere between the week of March 6, 2017 and April 1, 2017.”

Hooray for them! I’m very pro-oil, BUT, with such a high-profile system, the politics, and the future of additional pipelines, they better have crossed their T’s and dotted their i’s on all of the plans - America can’t afford a screw up.

Of course I’m guessing the eco-terrorists will try to somehow sabotage the thing.

The obstructionists do not hesitate to move the goal posts as many times as they need to.

I see where the reportable quantity of an oil spill in North Dakota is “any amount”. So they will obviously use this to their advantage. I was on a job once where a hydraulic hose broke and maybe 1/4 cup of fluid fell onto the desert floor.

Absorbent pads were quickly tossed on the ground, shoveling contaminated soil into five gallon buckets, reporting, review, retraining - two days later we were back to work!

I'm thinking more of good quality control of their materials and construction, debugged software, etc.

Poor Soros is going to be butt hurt on the loss of his monopoly on shipping that oil through the cities on his train lines. After all he spent on protests and politicians it’s just not fair.../s

Ahh...yes. Always follow the money. Mr. Warren Buffet also fights oil pipelines, having invested in the trains that carry the oil. Creepozoids all.

No, not going there. I am glad to read that oil will be flowing in a few weeks. Now lets open up lands for exploration.

"the pilot hole is complete"
"currently reaming the hole" for the bigger pipe

Huh? What happened to digging a trench, putting in the pipe, and covering it up? How is it done today?

They’re drilling a couple hundred feet or so under the river.

If I understand this project correctly, they are running the pipe under a body of water (I believe is is a lake). They are referring to a directional drilling pilot hole. Only Moses could use trenching to complete that portion of the project.

Found my own answer - Horizontal Directional Drilling. Good video of a bunch of still shots at the Mears site. Mears HDD

It’s Warren Buffett who owns the train lines that move the oil, not George Soros. Your point however is well taken.

**************

They found that method to be less reliable than directional drilling, as Moses’ arms tended to get tired while holding his staff up over his head to keep the lake waters divided.

And all of Buffet’s money won’t put the oil on trains again.

There is more environmental damage from the protesters camp than will ever happen from this pipeline.

"...currently reaming the hole ..."

Never good to hear a lawyer say this.
