Mexican border wall building contracts to be awarded by April
Chicago Tribune ^ | 02/25/2017 | Elliot Spagat

US Customs and Border Protection said Friday that it plans to start awarding contracts by mid-April for President Donald Trump's proposed border wall with Mexico, signaling that he is aggressively pursuing plans to erect "a great wall" along the 2,000-mile border.

The agency said it will request bids on or around March 6 and that companies would have to submit "concept papers" to design and build prototypes by March 10, according to FedBizOpps.gov, a website for federal contractors. The field of candidates will be narrowed by March 20, and finalists must submit offers with their proposed costs by March 24.

-------------------------------------------

There are currently 354 miles of pedestrian fencing and 300 miles of vehicle barriers, much of it built during President George W. Bush's second term.

-------------------------------------------

The Homeland Security report proposes an initial phase that would extend fences 26 miles and a second wave that would add 151 miles, plus 272 "replacement" miles where fences are already installed, according to the official. Those two phases would cost $5 billion.

The price tag will depend largely on the height, materials and other specifications that have not yet been defined.

Granite Construction Inc., Vulcan Materials Co. and Martin Marrieta Materials Inc. are seen as potential bidders. Kiewit Corp. built one of the more expensive stretches of fencing so far at a cost of about $16 million a mile, a project in San Diego that involved filling a deep canyon known as Smuggler's Gulch.

Cement maker Cemex SAB is also seen as a potential beneficiary even though it is based in Mexico.

This article has more information not in the previous posted article. It looks like they will be moving quickly to fill in the areas that are easiest to complete...this has a quick benefit of funneling the illegals into hard to cross areas, which should increase the captures and discourage future crossers. I can see a huge increase in airplane and boat drug and human trafficking.

The press is so involved in taking Trump down with bogus stories and the radicals(Democrats) so involved in rioting and screaming about Trump the racist that they will have a collective stoke when they wake up in May/Jun to find out that the wall is in fact being built.

LOL! If you're going to bid on the Trump wall and want to get the job you better sharpen your pencil before you do.

I can already hear the contractor(s) crying about how much money they're losing.

It should have been up yesterday. They could just hire people with shovels to dig a big trench and fill it with broken wine bottles and old razor blades. Anyone entering the country must first remove their shoes.

Trump and Kell better make double-darn sure they lay the law down to all contractors and subcontractors that all employees must be citizens or legal residents with no exceptions.

NO ILLEGALS!

You know the media will be checking every name and detail trying to catch the government with an illegal alien working on the construction of the wall.

Heck! - I wouldn’t be surprised if they tried to plant some illegals amonmg the subcontractors just to generate an anti-Trump story.

I don’t care who wanted this wall. Not too many months ago, EPA would never have allowed it. I’ll bet they do now.

“Not too many months ago, EPA would never have allowed it. I’ll bet they do now.”

That part of the movie is going to be most interesting. The Bush wall was hindered by EPA rulings and lawsuits, which was his own fault...he never did get around to replacing all the Clinton/Gore hacks at the EPA and all the other agencies. And some large tract land owners sued as well.

I have zero sympathy for the large landowners who spent years screaming for the Border Patrol to stop the crossers, but wanted it all done without a wall or fence. Trump can use their own words to bolster his claim that it is a National Security issue. BOOM!

“he never did get around to replacing all the Clinton/Gore hacks at the EPA and all the other agencies”

That was because he really didn’t want to!

Arizona requires EVerify for any employment. If someone has a stolen identity and the manage to get hired THEY go to jail, not the subcontractor. I doubt the media would be dumb enough to do that because they would be exposed for participating in criminal activity and would go to jail along with the illegal.

Is the former Trump Corporation permitted to submit a bid?

They should use concrete panels and towers like the ones inIsrael. The other ideas like existing fences being climbed and drugs going through. Use that works.
