Game of thrones: Israel prepares for Netanyahu's potential departure

As corruption investigations pile up, Benjamin Netanyahu’s potential early departure is likely to produce an early election with unpredictable results.

(snip)

The case the police is calling File 1000, which explores a supply channel of quality cigars and cases of pink champagne to the Netanyahu household from Hollywood producer Arnon Milchan, is the lesser of three investigations involving Netanyahu. The others involve an influence deal with the publisher of a major Israeli newspaper and an untendered purchase of German submarines.

The second file is about talks held in 2014 between Netanyahu and Arnon “Noni” Mozes, publisher of the mass-circulation Yediot Ahronot daily.

Allegedly, Mozes was to invert his newspaper’s political line and deliver Netanyahu favorable coverage, while Netanyahu was to get Yediot’s main competitor, Israel Hayom, to stop publishing the weekend supplement ‒ its most journalistically powerful section. Israel Hayom’s publisher, American casino magnate Sheldon Adelson, is a close friend of Netanyahu. Adelson launched the free daily in 2007 as a response to Yediot’s constant attacks on Netanyahu.

Israel Hayom’s weekend circulation of more than 500,000 and its underpriced ad rates have sharply reduced the revenues of the privately held Yediot.

This investigation, which police labeled File 2000, is based on a conversation it found recorded on the smartphone of former Netanyahu aide Ari Harow during an investigation over a suspected conflict of interest while he served as the prime minister’s chief of staff.

Israel cannot afford to lose Netanyahu now.

But the Israeli left is as bad as our own, in not caring if the country is destroyed so long as it wins a political battle.

I’m afraid the Israeli left is stuffed full of self-hating Jews, who could care less if they destroy Israel.

Let’s hope that Netanyahu can get enough support from Israeli citizens to quash these stupid “investigations.”

I hope it’s not true either, but clearly, certain factions are after Bibi. One must remember that no one stays on top of influence forever, unless you’re someone ready to sell out just to remain a figurehead, like Mugabe or Royals of Old Europe. I’m hoping Netanyahu has a few proteges close to a state of readiness just in case he is forced from office (and still allowed to keep living).

Sherrif Arpaio of Arizona thought the job would be his for as long as he wanted it. The voter base can change over a great length of time. After a certain passage of decades, many voters simply want to see someone new in charge and are ready to take a gamble.

Last thought: Netanyahu has dual citizenship, meaning he can still claim American citizenship if he ever wanted to.
Wouldn’t that be remarkable, to have him run for office here, and win. It would drive the libs absolutely batty!

Israel is basically New York City as its own country. NYC was very fortunate to have had Rudy when it did, and Israel has been quite fortunate to have had Bibi at this time. Despite what I have read on threads here, there is very much a Left in Israel, and it is just like the Left here, only more so.

Agreed, i hope it is not true EVEN THOUGH I have criticisms of Bibi....

Israel still has a very SUICIDAL left wing ... that if they ever got into power again WOULD SELL THE COUNTRY right down the river....

(one thing, JPost has leaned very left for quite awhile already... it is not Israel’s most commie newspaper...but it still regularly runs a lot of left wing articles as “news” instead of putting them on its OpEd page where they belong...so this could be just another leftist propaganda hit against Bibi??? we will see) ...
