She does, however, PANT a lot.
She also excels in the fine canine art of drool.

THE GREAT AMERICAN SONGBOOK

COLE PORTER

KISS ME, KATE

THOMAS ALLEN: “WHERE IS THE LIFE THAT LATE I LED?”

The London Proms feature a variety of summer performances with a mix of classical and popular. Thomas Allen, one of England’s great lieder and opera baritones, here takes a turn at an American musical. (One of my desert island DVDs is the Met production of Wagner’s Die Meistersinger with Allen in the role of Sixtus Beckmesser.) This video is from the 2004 Proms. That’s Leonard Slatkin conducting.

She would have fit in during the early Classical era. There was a tradition of singing animals in opera. One was Hermann Bray, the singing donkey. He was an asso profundo.

A short story about things which happened almost 50 years ago:

When my children were 13 and 10, respectively, and when we would go to the mall as a family to shop, I would walk into Macy's or Sears or whatever store, walk up to one of the mannequins and start a conversation with the mannequin. The wife would simply roll her eyes and keep walking as if she did not know any of us. My two children thought that I was the funniest and coolest dad on the planet. They would laugh themselves silly as I made it seem like the mannequin was answering me. Of course, everyone else in the store would look at all of us as if we had lost our minds.

After several years of this nonsense and every time we went to the mall I would always start a conversation with the very first mannequin in the store.

But then one day something happened. We went into a department store and I started a conversation with a mannequin. My 16-year-old daughter said, "DADDY! What are you doing? Please stop that! You're embarrassing me! What if one of my friends sees us and sees you talking to a mannequin?" My 13-year-old son simply shook his head, rolled his eyes and mumbled something.

I simply do not understand it. Perhaps one or more of the Canteen divas can clue me in as to what happened to my daughter and son!
