Leaked House Republican Healthcare Plan a Nonstarter
AFL-CIO ^ | February 24, 2017 | AFL-CIO President Trumka

Posted on 02/24/2017 3:05:55 PM PST by mdittmar

Statement by AFL-CIO President Trumka on the leaked draft House Republican healthcare plans:

The leaked Republican health plan is a non-starter because it would lower the bar on care when we should be raising it instead. It exposes the fact that Congress is intent on slashing health coverage for tens of millions of Americans and imposing a new tax directly on working people, threatening to destroy the health coverage we earn on the job.

The truth is, the people lowering America’s healthcare under the banner of “reform” have never had to worry about care for themselves or their families. CEOs and billionaires and right-wing politicians get the best care because cost for them isn’t a factor. The rest of us don’t have that luxury. If we are to take a plan seriously, it must show exactly how it will improve and expand coverage for more working people, not put high-quality care out of reach.

Isn't this pig under investigation by the DOJ? Something about financial irregularities IIRC.

Well that right there shows it’s a ‘leaked document’ ...

I believe there are going to be a few ‘leaked documents’ in the next few weeks, there is a plan underway and some people are going to get caught!!!

Here’s the unbiased money quote: “CEOs and billionaires and right-wing politicians get the best care because cost for them isn’t a factor.”

Left-wing politicians and union bosses evidently are just poor and hard working folks living pay check to pay check - mostly from very large trust funds ...

Wait a minute! You have to pass it before you know what’s in it right? I believe there is a so called precedent for that.

Time for the Trump administration to fire every one of those bastards and hire some Americans. Over half of the country support him. It shouldn’t be hard to hire replacements who are not moonlighting for their Kenyan master.

“The leaked Republican health plan is a non-starter because it would lower the bar on care when we should be raising it instead.”

The biggest problem with ANY plan is that it promises health CARE and not health INSURANCE! A unified “plan” from Congress that would force insurance companies to disclose the options, benefits, premiums and coverage levels would be an amazing way to change this whole debate!

Give people the option to select whatever plan fits their needs/budget, just like we do now do for auto insurance and homeowner’s insurance. Maybe require everyone to have a catastrophic plan, like liability when you drive a car. If your employer offers to pay your premium as a benefit, great!

But giving everyone in the country a Cadillac plan that covers every possible health condition or treatment is impossible to implement and costs far too much money! The Republicans need to stop getting pulled into a health CARE debate because they always lose!

So sayer the cretin who got the Cadillac exemption pushed out past the 2012 election. Couldn’t have the truth fall on those voters at such a critical time. I cannot wait until he exits the stage.

” Maybe require everyone to have a catastrophic plan”

Absolutely not! Requiring everyone to buy a private product as a cost of citizenship is exactly what obamacare does! If you don’t do it you get fined/taxed. That’s what we want to get rid of!

What do all the insurance companies and their experts think about this?
Did they have any input in this draft?

Media: “Let’s criticize the Obamacare replacement.”
Media: “There isn’t one.”
Media: “Even better! Make one up.”

There are about a hundred drafts floating around.

Trumka is out of touch with his rank and file. He is he poster child for the out of touch Union leader who is enriched by his position while his rank and file suck wind.

Preemptive strike - get out terrible lies about what’s in the plan before it’s even written so that once it is the true facts are already buried......

He’d have to move the administration to Florida to do that. 91% of Washington DC voters voted Dem. That tends to limit the employable pool and make it a tougher slog to find people who are trustworthy.

But letting everyone clog the 911 system and the ERs is not a solution either!

It’s all has to be part of a much-needed overhaul of so many systems - we need to get people back to work and off the government dole...not an easy task, I’ll admit!

The simple truth is that medical care has become far too complicated and far too expensive and almost everyone is shielded from the actual costs.

Absolutely correct! No requirement to buy health insurance. Also, get rid of the part about making the insurance companies cover pre-existing conditions but limit how much the premium can be.

I suspect the leak is intentional, a trial balloon. I also suspect republicans don’t care what the AFL-CIO leadership says. Trump has their members, and that is enough.
