The Mexican government is strongly controlling the optics of a visit today by Secretary of State Rex Tillerson and DHS Secretary General John Kelly. [An upcoming press conference live stream is embedded below ] Mexico fears the projection of U.S. strength will undermine their position.

President Trump is taking a hard-line approach with Mexico’s central policies that have allowed, and in many cases facilitated, vast numbers of economic migrants to travel into the U.S. Trump’s pending policies are going to be weighted heavily on the feedback he receives from T-Rex and General Kelly’s visit.

As long as the US carried the financial load, Mexico did not have to address their own corruption.

Hopefully they will begin to mind their house and yard.

The application of fear can be a useful motivator.

The best part about Trump’s plan is that we are going to send back to Mexico ALL of the people caught crossing into the USA from Mexico, including the Central Americans, Haitians, etc. Believe me, Mexico does not want those people dumped into their border cities; but Mexico willingly let those people pass through their territory. Now that is THEIR PROBLEM.

I love how President plays “bad cop” and let’s the other guys in the administration act like they don’t have much they can do about it. It automatically gives us the upper hand. Mexico is used to acting mad and having US diplomats groveling. This is a really nice change

Yes, it has an Army, Navy, Marines, Coast Guard and Air Force. Is it a match for ours? No, but neither is China’s.

Not only did Mexico allow Mexican nationals to violate our border (something that I oppose but can understand based on political and financial realities), they also became a highway for Central American, Asian and Middle Eastern illegal immigration.

They happily let nationals from dozens of countries violate our border, as far as I am concerned, they created the problem and they can build refuge camps for these people or foot the bill to get them back to their country of origin.

Yes, Mexico does have an army. As far as armour goes, the Panhard ERC 90 is the closest thing to a tank that they have.

They have an army, but it’s in the pocket of the cartels.
They have to use the Navy to perform offensive counter-drug operations.

“Mexico fears the projection of U.S. strength will undermine their position.”
Their POSITION is to dump their welfare recipients and criminals on US.
NO MORE.
RICH MEXICANS must take care of their own instead of getting richer on all the money we have given to them in addition to previous administratons allowing them to DUMP on American taxpayers.

It is HIGH TIME for Mexico to take RSPONSIBILITY for THEIR OWN citizens.
Period.

Good point, however, Mexico will also note that the two guys doing the negotiating have bad-ass nicknames: Mad Dog and T-Rex!

But does he have "small hands"?

You'll have to get an official assessment from Little Marco on that question.
