Boehner Says GOP Won’t Scrap Obamacare

Former House Speaker John Boehner made a surprising prediction on Thursday: Republicans won't "repeal and replace" Obamacare, a signature campaign pledge for years.

"[Congressional Republicans are] going to fix Obamacare – I shouldn't call it repeal-and-replace, because it's not going to happen," Boehner told an Orlando health care conference, Politico reported.

"I started laughing… Republicans never, ever agree on health care," the former speaker continued.

"Most of the framework of the Affordable Care Act… that's going to be there," Boehner said, using the formal name for Obamacare.

Boehner resigned in 2015, after a long period of disagreements with his conference's hardline conservatives.

As recently as Wednesday, the administration was vowing to "repeal" and "replace" Obamacare. Rep. Paul Ryan, R-Wis., who replaced Boehner as speaker, is championing a plan titled "Obamacare Repeal and Replace."

"ObamaCare is a job killer. We'll repeal ObamaCare once and for all & eliminate its mandates, taxes & intrusion into businesses & your lives," Vice President Mike Pence tweeted Wednesday.

Pence used the term "job killer" to describe the law in a St. Louis speech Wednesday as well, vowing replacement for the health care law in remarks to a local company.

"President Trump and I want every American to have quality and affordable health care insurance," Pence said.

Obamacare won’t be repealed, because it can’t be repealed - or, more exactly, it can’t be repealed without ushering in huge Democratic majorities in the House and the Senate.

Members of Congress don’t know much, but they can count votes like a pimp in a whorehouse can count money.

Yes, the voters “hate Obamacare and want it repealed”. That is absolutely true.

It’s also true that they want the ability to buy insurance for pre-existing conditions, want insurance companies to be forbidden to cancel policies for non-payment, want zero payment at the point of service, want their adult children who are smoking dope in a dive in Oakland to stay covered, want their States to expand Medicaid without taxes going up, and so on.

In other words, the only two things they hate about Obamacare are paying for it, and the name.

Republicans in Congress understand this perfectly well, which is why there’s no plan.

And, not coincidentally, Obamacare (and Romneycare) were the culmination of fifty years of “reform”, all of which had the purpose of destroying the private sector or making it impossible for the private sector to function, except for boob jobs and a few other things. And, by 2009, the mission was largely accomplished.

Obamacare was merely a temporary mop-up operation, until full nationalization was possible.

And now, it is.

Like Nixon to China, Trump will propose single payer within the year. It’s really the only way out at this point.

And before you accuse me of favoring it, realize that it will destroy a lifetime of work for me, built in part on a lifetime of work by my father. I don’t like it - I hate it.

But it’s coming, because it’s what the voters, bless their pointy little heads, want.

Bonehead may be telling the truth. The GOP has yet to put that repeal bill on Trump’s desk. They are lying to us.

Pretty much. Hannity had two Republican Congress critters on yesterday. Time and time again, he tried to nail them down on when an ObamaCare repeal/replace bill was going to get passed. They both hemmed and hawed. "Well...." they'd say. "You know...." It drove Sean nuts.

He eventually gave up.

We are way past time for the implosion of the GOP that was promised if Trump lost. These people are a boat anchor on Trump’s ship of state.

Almost six weeks ago President Trump said that he had his own plan, which "was very much formulated down to the final strokes." He doesn't need to wait for Congress to take the lead on this..

Republicans are great at grandstanding when not in power. All those “Repeal Obamacare” and other bills were just for show knowing that Obama would veto them. When Republicans are actually in power and can make things happen, RINOs emerge to impede needed reforms. Too many Republicans pretend to be conservative to get votes but their real goal is to get their hands on the spending spigot.

I agree. The House repealed it 40+ times when they knew it had ZERO chance of it happening. It was all for show.

Almost six weeks ago President Trump said that he had his own plan, which "was very much formulated down to the final strokes."

Then he needs to release it since Congress seems incapable of coming up with their own. But it had better work because the GOP is going to own it this time.

The same can be done for a law, if the will exists.”

Can’t stand Boehner but IMO he is right about ever repealing and replacing Obamacare. It’s all about control and Congress is not about to turn it over to the free market to take care of. Gutless wonders we have elected for the most part.

IIRC,the ACA has built into it the provision that it cannot be changed, only completely repealed. Does anyone else remember it this way?

Couldn’t have been summed up any better.
+1000

Treacherous democrats, GOPe, media and NWO thrive on a voting populace that becomes ever more ignorant and immoral.

Conservative constitutionally minded voters are overwhelmingly outnumbered.
