Trump facing revived criticism from GOP ranks, ahead of high-stakes address

President Trump, after enjoying a brief stretch of party unity in the wake of the rowdy 2016 race, is facing renewed criticism from the Republican ranks -- upping pressure on him to smooth over tensions when he addresses a Joint Session of Congress next week. But some of the GOP lawmakers who could be influential champions of that agenda -- on ObamaCare repeal, tax reform and more -- are increasingly getting on his case over recent controversies. The tensions could test the fragile peace that has existed between Trump and Capitol Hill Republicans in the aftermath of their November win, and their cooperation going forward.

Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., who was never shy criticizing Trump during the campaign, seemingly has returned to his “maverick” role. On Sunday, reacting to a tweet Trump sent Friday calling the press “the enemy of the American People,” McCain warned that without a free and adversarial press: “That's how dictators get started.”

"They get started by suppressing free press," McCain told NBC’s "Meet the Press." "In other words, a consolidation of power when you look at history, the first thing that dictators do is shut down the press. And I'm not saying that President Trump is trying to be a dictator. I'm just saying we need to learn the lessons of history."

In a speech at the Munich Security Conference in Germany on Friday, the Arizona senator didn’t mention Trump by name, but said the founders of the conference would be alarmed “more of our fellow citizens seem to be flirting with authoritarianism.”

So can I assume the revived criticism is just one senatard from Arizona?

Rep. Justin Amash, R-Mich., used Twitter to lambaste Trump’s criticism of a recent court ruling against his executive order on immigration. Amash decried Trump’s “fear mongering” as “irresponsible and dangerous.”

If ‘we” learned the lessons of History, Juan would not keep being re-elected.

It was pointed out last evening on one of the fox shows that the anal hole George Will was back on his crusade against Trump. If this jerk cannot get on board, I hope he jumps off the 3 meter board and lands right on top of his pointed head.

Ho hum...

More fake news about “chaos” among Republicans...

It’ too bad that Senator McCain never learned that our “press” is not “free” simply because it “says” so.

President Trump, after enjoying a brief stretch of party unity in the wake of the rowdy 2016 race, is facing renewed criticism from the Republican ranks>>>>>>>>>>>>

Again just more lies.

There is no renewed criticism from “Republican Ranks.”

Just two lightweights: rectally prolapsed Graham and residual Alzheimer’s patient McCain, both wanna be presidential candidates who lost their races and are indeed bitter bi-partisan losers.

Make no mistake about it. President Trump means to unify the country and he will have no problem destroying Graham and McCain.

McCain no longer represents “republican ranks” as the article claims. Everything McCain has done has defined him as nothing more than a bitter loser.People know this as fact.

If there are any tensions they are created by fake news weaponized propaganda and faux Town Hall meetings where organized paid protest management shut off the People from communicating with their duly elected representatives.

America simply will no longer put up with the left, or their femino-nazi’s pu$$y whipping America, America rejects all of it and all of them.

That rejection is what causes tension, and Trump does not have to smooth it over.

Trump has to amp up the tension...Big League. Into the dumper with the lot of them, right along with Graham and McCain. That’s called leadership. leadership does not have to be somottyed over as the little left Foxtrot Adam Shaws and Marie Harfs at Fox News stipulate as fake News.

Evidence: Who else beside McCain and Graham are talking about smothing over tensions. Where are the quotes from Paul Ryan, McConnell, and other Republicans? All we have is a c0uple of farts: Justin Amash, Rep. Walter Jones and Chaffitz?

Where are the names of the mass movement of anti-Trumpers in the House and Senate, most who resoundingly and truly applaud President Trump and his work?

The names do not exist. Its all weaponized text and fake news. A vast anti Trump conspiracy that exists only in the wet dreams of Leftists who insist that America exist in their putrid unAmerican alternate reality.

No Trump must not smooth anything over. he must address the nation straight on, tell them exactly what he is going to do, and straight up ask for the support of the Congress and the Judiciary in doing so.

F*ck smoothing over tension. We need lots of tension.

He should use his bully pulpit instead of talking to Congress.

Next week trump will give a State of the Union Address to the joint Session of Congress. this is required of President Trump by the Constitution. It takes the place of the annual address to parliament by Royalty or their representatives in the UK. Its important and traditionally COngress calmly listens to the president.

And I hope President Trump says things staight up that turns the Democratic Congress Critters into a bunch of caterwauling apes jumping up and down in their seats while the rest of Congress sits calmly.

That’s what I want to see on television.

And that’s exactly what the nation needs to see.

I could be wrong but I don’t think this is SOTU, which is required from time to time. This isn’t required, nor is it prudent.

It's not the SOTU speech, but it may be Trump's STFU speech.

upping pressure on him to smooth over tensions

I don't want President Trump to smooth over tensions. I want him to make progress on specific key goals. I don't care whose delicate feelings he hurts, I want Obamacare repealed legislatively. Failing that, I want him to turn over enough apple carts that Obamacare is permanently unworkable so that Congress will have to repeal it.

I like the executive order for the IRS not to collect Obamacare fines, but I want more. I want permanent individual Obamacare waivers for all US citizens and for all US businesses. I don't care if some congressional sneak is worried about the election. The elections don't matter if we don't get important things done after a win.

Similarly, I want illegals deported. I want criminal illegals deported quickly. I want ALL new illegals deported, without exception. I want President Trump to keep his standard that illegals who entered in 2015 or later are not entitled to a court hearing, just direct deportation. As we get rid of the illegal felons and illegal voters and welfare illegals, I would like to see the no-trial deportations gradually expanded to those who entered in 2014 or later, then 2013 or later . . . We have a limited time to get things done, and I want vastly improved facts on the ground before the 2018 elections and the major problems solved before the 2020 election.
