Why don't we have an American Olympics?

All 50 states compete against one another. It would boost tourism and patriotism.

That was my first thought, if LA won, it would probably be the financial end of the city and take down the state with it.

If Pen wins, this would be really funny: no place to boycott.

I’m not saying Los Angeles or California are in good financial shape, but the Los Angeles bid only involves one new facility (for something called a Canoe Slalom). Except for this, all the venues are built or already under construction. Even the Olympic Village (which will utilize dormitories of UCLA). This makes the Los Angeles bid very different from the prior Olympic bids that have cost the local taxpayer fortunes.

Move it permanently to Athens Greece. Let cities/countries bid on hosting the games in Greece. They can upgrade/modernize the facilities as they wish and bring in vendor's to showcase their countries and cultures.

This proposal will greatly reduce the cost burden and eliminate any more fiasco's like Rio.

Good point, if the infrastructure costs can be kept down then the Olympics might be a boon to the city. They already have Olympic grade everything.

I can't see any reason I'd wan to go to either city. Getting the Olympics would just be another good reason not to go to the "winner," a victory that would be just about as great was a winning case of AIDS.

I rarely find myself in the position of cheering for France, but this time I do.

If LA got it, it would be their third time. Paris had it in 1924 I think. The movie Chariots of Fire highlighted it

Population:

California 39,144,818

Wyoming 586,107

Don't think it would be very fair, unless tossing cow patties is an event.

Paris? 500 meter burka swim race?

Rifle and pistol events might get messy.
