in 1975 our frozen patties were 10/lb or 4/lb as I recall.

The small ones (10/lb) were what we used for the single cheeseburger / hamburger. On Saturdays I’d cook up 8 dozen (twice) to load the steam drawers (they did alright for fast food) just before the lunch rush (it was a mall - still standing, amazingly though the restaurants are long gone).

Yep, two rounds of 96 patties laid down on the grill - average sized grill I think (flat grill).

We easily sold out of all those burgers but mostly all we had to do for 2 hours was special orders and the chicken we made a couple of ways (pressure cooker pieces and breast sandwiches).

A little clarification:

There never was any pink slime served at McDonalds.

The size of the patties hasn’t changed, at least not since 1977 when I worked there.

Any change in flavor of the burger is in your head. They grill them the same way. The only difference in preparation is they now employ warming trays to keep just the meat warm, and that is only at the busier hours. The served burgers are assembled as you order them now, so they are fresher than they were 40 years ago.

Yep, they changed away from beef tallow for the fries. So has every other major restaurant in America. The Heart Attack Grill in Las Vegas is the only restaurant I know of that still uses beef tallow to fry.

The shakes and ice cream are made with dairy products. They, and almost every other restaurant, switched to formulations that use milk instead of cream to lower the calorie count and cholesterol.

Your memories are tainted by nostalgia...

A cup pack full of ice with about 8 oz. of soda is not a deal even at $1.

And as far as prices go...

In 1977 the minimum wage was $2.35 an hour and a cheeseburger cost $.39. I could buy 6 cheeseburgers with an hours wage.

Now the minimum wage here is $7.35 and a cheeseburger is $1.09, so you actually get 6.7 cheeseburgers for an hour’s wage.

Hmmmm.

You can tell them to hold the ice. I do.

They are already $1 and so is a regular cup of coffee.

“use lard or tallo for your fries”

I have not had a McDonald’s fry since they became “healthy”.

They used to be pure heaven.

“The Big Macs are tiny compared to 30 years ago, smaller in diameter and thinner patties. And the food tastes nasty compared to the old days.”

the last time I ordered a big mac (i had a two-for-one coupon a few years ago and nostalgia had struck), we too noticed they were itty-bitty compared to the original ones, and I say “ordered” because we threw them away they were so completely inedible. haven’t been back since and never planning on going back, either.

“Grande Big Mac”

“Original Big Mac” would be too much of an admission ...

“Instant Tea is a mortal sin”

As are instant grits. They had absolutely right on “My Cousin Vinny” when Mr. Tipton stated under oath that “No self-respectin’ Southerner uses instant grits.”

Isn’t the sale of a 32oz soda in NY a death penalty crime?

Soda pop is one of the absolutely worst things you can put in your body. The one good thing McDonalds did recently was put butter (instead of margarine) into their Egg McMuffins.

But I still prefer the Egg McMuffins I make at home. Thomases English muffins with extra virgin olive oil spread on them. Thick slices of Swiss cheese. Real eggs (over easy). Real bacon.

So good.

I’ve never understood what purpose instant grits are supposed to serve anyway. It’s not as if real grits take all that much time or effort, and the instant ones are just wrong, the taste, the texture, bleh.

Except for people who can’t digest dairy products, why would anyone order a soda at McDonald’s when they have shamrock shakes?

2 for $5 menu disappeared in WA state. Couldn’t afford to keep doing it in the land of $15/hour minimum wage.

Minimum wage is crushing the economy in WA state.

You mean you have to pay more to not have the sugar included?

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The same way we had to pay more for unleaded gasoline. Lead (Tetraethyl) was an additive, it’s not like they had to remove it from gasoline, just don’t put it in to begin with.
