I never had it tear me up, but there was always the shame factor.

Mentioned on a thread long ago was another reason for their decline was targeting the hip hop demographic. Most recent new McD’s commercial I saw was specifically targeting the same demo.

That’s exactly my observation. It is quite shocking how small the portions are and the taste is bland compared to the old days.

I've worked in food/beverage service, and believe me, at $1 per soda, they're still making bank.

The most expensive part of a fountain soda is the cup. We used to figure about 8 cents to pour a 16-ounce pop.

The McDonalds near me has small size Senior Drinks for $.79.

Maybe I’ll splurge and spend another $.21 for an Large, but only on Big Mac ($2.19) Monday. They almost lost me when they raised the price from $1.99. LOL

Food is blah at best -food is fuel. Of the fast food joints, about all you can say is that it is quick.

Some good points, but it was the liberals who started the war on fast food, Moral Mondays with no meat, “labor abuses”, etc. McDonald’s has tried to add healthy food to their menu but really didn’t find success with it. Liberals like boutique places like those you mentioned. Either way, it is up to McDonald’s to fight off the liberals instead of trying to appease them.

I like sweet tea. Like it unsweetened too. Sometimes in between.

I can tell McD's exactly what to do to increase sales, drop 40% of the menu, drop the made to order concept For those of you who don't know, McD's like most other large chains, have been batch cooking food and holding it in warming cabinets so made to order means assembling pre cooked food, that's why you don't get hot food at these places anymore. Back before the 90's the food was cooked and held for ten minutes in a warming bin and trashed if not sold(Ok there were always locations where they cheated to keep down food costs because they were inept, and the taste of the food was entirely different.

The big problems started when McD's started adding more and more items to the menu to try and keep market share, all they really did was turn away from the founding concept and quality that built the brand.

The bottom line is that McDonalds started cow-towing to people who weren’t going to eat there anyway.

Burritos, wraps, salads, non-dairy “Shakes” and other crap that targets other non-customers.

Stick to good quality meat, cook the fries in tallow and ditch the other stuff.

The other stuff is like seeing a whore in church.

I stopped going to Five Guys because the quality of the meat is lousy here in the Midwest. Seems like cheap soy patties from Walmart that I can buy 10 for $5.

The last 3 or 4 I had tasted cheap. When the burger is nearly $10 it needs to be better.

I’d much rather go to Culver’s or Freddie’s (Freddie’s preferred).

Better wake up, Five Guys.

I remember getting a cheeseburger, small fry and a Coke at McDonald’s and getting change back from $1.

Of course, that was about 1970 or 1971.........

Oh well - the old days. Didn’t realize how much I’d miss them.

The do gooders got involved making them drain grease and cook certain ways. A quarterpounder in 1978 was paradise.

It’s not like the drawers when I did them in the mid 1970’s. We’d assemble the burgers, put them in wax paper, then in steam drawers under the front counters. That was 1975.

Today’s McD burgers exist for minutes before they are thrown out. My father worked at one when he retired and the amount of food thrown away really made him sick. At night there was food left over many nights that was about to expire.

In the old days they made the patties. For over 40 years they have received frozen patties, 1/10 pound for hamburgers, cheeseburgers, and big macs, and 1/4 pound for quarter pounders. Weight before cooking.

That’s a great picture.

I worked at an Arby’s as a kid in Cali. They had a photo shoot for the grand opening. A crew showed up and spent an entire day preparing food—everything had to be prepared in the restaurant, and they had a professional food stylist! It was crazy—they wnet through dozens of entrees for each shot. Everything was perfectly sized and arranged. They crowned it with condiments, sprayed the veggies with water and artfully applied oil to the meat and fries to give it the just-off-the-grill look. Never saw a prettier sandwich and never saw anything resembling it come out of a fast food place.

Mcdonalds spends a lots of money, many coporate meetings, and thousands of taste testings to arrive at that “bland and tasteless” cuisine!/s
