Burger King and Tim Horton's owner Restaurant Brands International is nearing a deal to acquire Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen, according to a Reuters report.

First reported last week, the deal could help the Georgia-based Popeyes reach more global diners and boost Restaurant Brands' already strong roster of restaurants. A deal could be announced as early as this week, sources told Reuters.

Shares of Restaurant Brands were slightly positive on Monday, while shares of Popeyes were slightly negative.

Some analysts have welcomed the idea of a deal.

One of Copeland's expensive toys was that weird Lamborghini LM002 SUV. I think he bought that mostly because of the potholes. :-)

Honestly, the company began declining after he lost it in the bankruptcy sale. Bit by bit, the unique nature and quality has dropped away. I really miss their onion rings.

Soon to create a terrible fast food empire to rival Yum! It’s good to have all these places I don’t eat under one corporate roof.

Like most stereotypes, there’s a legitimate reason for associating fried chicken with black folks, and they do know good fried chicken. That would be the reason. If you really want to feel like a speck of lint on a black sweater, try Church’s sometime. Worth it for the fried okra in french fry bags with several varieties of hot sauce on hand alone, but the chicken is excellent, assuming it’s a clean, well-run store. That’s always a crapshoot with Church’s, though. Pity.

Saw a report that BK was trying to open a place in Vatican City with plenty of opposition to the plan. A name change could work it out for them with this as they could call it Popeeyes.

Fried chicken joints have the best biscuits. Especially good are Popeyes biscuits.

Hey, it's not an either-or. Popeye's ... Chick-fil-A ... the Colonel ... Wendy's ... the sheer culinary genius, delicate nuances of flavor, and stupendous range of the American fried chicken franchise oeuvre puts to shame anything in global cuisine.

You've hardly scratched the surface. There's also Church's, Brown's, Bojangles (here in south), Culver's (mostly north), Boston Market (neé Boston Chicken) and that's not counting casual sit down like Wild Buffalo Wings and similar.

Biscuits are an art that the southern-based chains don’t need to master, it comes naturally. Popeye’s are great, Bojangles are pretty good if a little salty due to the butter brushed on them before baking. There’s a small regional chain based here called Bicuitville that does an awesome job, as the name tends to imply. But, my favorite breakfast biscuit comes from the barbecue joints, huge “catspaw” biscuits with thick fried pork tenderloin, or decent thick bacon and a lot of it, hot sage sausage, whatever you want. McDonald’s biscuits are bland and dry, I honestly prefer a McMuffin if I’m grabbing breakfast there for some reason.

Absolutely. American fried chicken is truly one of the world’s great cuisines. If we were a third world country, this would already have been recognized, and globalist elites would eat fried chicken as a sign of sophistication.

“I returned home to Arabi Louisiana “

Ah! Arabi! Skating down to the slaughter house to see the two headed calf mounted on the wall, sneaking out on the cattle ramp that ran out from the levee to catch cat fish, shooting rats in the canal that ran from the slaughter house and picking blackberries along that same canal. Bike rides down to Packengham Oaks. Rocky & Carlo’s mac and cheese!!!

Man, the memories!

“I think the Sonic guys are pretty funny, but their commercials would never draw me there to eat.”

Yeah, sometimes they’re hilarious, but based on the food depicted in their Sonic ads, it looks like the most plastic food imaginable: the colors are so bright that the food has just got to be loaded with massive amounts of artificial color, which leads me to believe that the food is so loaded down with other chemicals, fillers and processed crap that it would be sickening to eat it.

Yeah, I remember the dispute over Copeland’s Christmas lights; Anne Rice, the vampire authoress, was one of the leaders.

Rocky & Carlo’s mac and cheese!!!

With grillades!

That place kept the Kaiser Aluminum workers fed - and they had enough leftovers for the family dinner.
