WASHINGTON — Mitch McConnell says he was surprised Donald Trump won on election night last year.

That may be true, but no one more brilliantly or shrewdly set the wheels in motion for President Trump's victory than the Senate majority leader from Kentucky.

... by making people realize they needed to elect someone who wasn’t a GOPe squish like McConnell.

McConnell’s major contribution was to serve as a negative example.

McConnell made it quite plain that Scalia would be replaced after the election and not before. That is no small thing.

It was a move demonstrating, once again, that while many politicians are playing checkers, McConnell is playing three-dimensional chess.

Maybe so, but the Democrats seem to when four out of five games with this loser.

Half the time McConnell forfeits because he does not even show up for the game.

If McConnell had gone ahead and confirmed Obama’s pick for the Supreme Court in the middle of a presidential election, it would have been the last straw for the base.

There would probably have been a literal peasant uprising on the capital with GOPe senators lying tarred and feathered on sidewalks and the offices of the US Chamber of Commerce and the Business Roundtable stormed and destroyed by huge mobs.

McConnell had no choice.

"In other words, the American people expressed confidence in the House and Senate. What they wanted, it seems to me, was someone who would signs bills that we passed.

That’s rather self-serving.

Rather they had seen what the Democrats had to offer after 8 years of Obama and Democrats running interference for him

No the Republican Congress does not inspire confidence. They are just the only option that offers any hope at all.

credit where credit is due...Republicans, strategy wise, literally wiped the floor with the “great Obama” coalition...other than Romney as the candidate...the last 4 elections have been a wipeout for the Dems. Especially the Supreme Court pick..they didnt really complain, thinking Hill was a shoo in. Ol turtle out slicked em.

I predicted during the election that within two years of the Trump Administration, never-Trumpers in Congress and especially the media would begin telling interviewers, “Well, yeah, a lot of people never realized I was supporting him all along.”

McConnell has said plenty but the one thing he did not count on was Trump winning. He felt his boy, Yeb, was going to take the high office. McConnell has said a lot of things, to take credit for Trump’s victory is robbing the bank and saying he captured the robber.

ROTFLMAO at headline.

McConnell had 0 to nothing to do with Trump’s victory. Oh I’m sure Trump thought of McConnell when it came to his reason for victory.....(sarcasm off)

McConnell must have been advised it’s not wise to be against Trump and now he is desperately attempting to take credit where credit is NOT due.

If McConnell wants to help President Trump, then he needs to make sure all of Trump’s legislation passes over the next 4 years. That would be a good start....

If McConnell can’t do this with a majority, then he needs to be replaced ASAP.
