One other thing, I thought that Wallace Green and Curtis Lemay came off pretty good in there. They were stymied in getting their voices heard, but they were of the opinion that if we went into Vietnam, go in to win, if not don’t get involved, no half measures. I think time has proven them correct.

I wonder what he got his silver star for.

He initially gained renown as a cavalry commander, earning a Silver Star in 1991’s Gulf War after his nine tanks wiped out more than 80 Iraqi tanks and other vehicles. His reputation grew after his 1997 book, Dereliction of Duty, boldly blasted the Joint Chiefs for their poor leadership during Vietnam.

Herbert Raymond “H. R.” McMaster (born July 24, 1962) is an American soldier, a career officer in the U.S. Army, and is the National Security Advisor to President Donald J. Trump. His current assignment is Director, Army Capabilities Integration Center and Deputy Commanding General, Futures, U.S. Army Training and Doctrine Command. His previous assignment was commander of the Maneuver Center of Excellence at Ft. Benning, Georgia. McMaster previously served as Director of Combined Joint Interagency Task Force-Shafafiyat (CJIATF-Shafafiyat) (Transparency) at ISAF (International Security Assistance Force) Headquarters in Kabul, Afghanistan. He is known for his roles in the Gulf War, Operation Iraqi Freedom, Operation Enduring Freedom, and his reputation for questioning U.S. policy and military leaders regarding the Vietnam War.

On February 20, 2017, he was appointed White House National Security Advisor

During the Gulf War in 1991 he was a captain commanding Eagle Troop of the 2nd Armored Cavalry Regiment at the Battle of 73 Easting.[3] During that battle, though significantly outnumbered and encountering the enemy by surprise as McMaster’s lead tank crested a dip in the terrain, the nine tanks of Eagle Troop destroyed over eighty Iraqi Republican Guard tanks and other vehicles without loss, due to the Abrams tank being state-of-the-art armored technology while the Iraqi equipment included grossly outdated T-62s and -72s of the Soviet era as well as similarly dated Type 69s of Chinese manufacture.[4]

McMaster was awarded the Silver Star.

"Gen. McMaster was a Colonel when he lead his tanks during the famous Battle of 73 Easting during the first Iraq war."

McMaster was a Captain in Desert Storm. He was a Colonel in Iraqi Freedom, where his regiment retook the city of Tal Afar.

As I recall, McMaster was a legend at that time, and the U.S. specifically waited until his unit was in theater to retake Tal Afar.

Also, McMaster almost did not get promoted to Brigadier General because the higher-ups saw his counter-insurgency philosophy as too disruptive to the traditional Army.

I’m sure the book is available at other outlets. The person is just recommending a book, not the location from which to purchase..

9 vs. 80+ tanks, with no losses and total destruction of the enemy is quite astonishing performance, even if the Iraqis were outgunned and undertrained.

LBJ thought McNamara was the smartest guy that ever put on a pair of britches. Had him fooled, no doubt.

I am so relieved that Trump rejected Bolton. I just knew he would. Bolton is an interventionist, globalist NEO CON from hell. Thank you, president Trump, for saving us from that. Your selection is a new STAR!!!
