I’m tempted to say this was a case of suicide by police. The guy didn’t have the stones to just off himself, so he set up a scenario where he could get an LEO to do it for him. JMHO.

"Bet it didn’t have the orange tip on it."
High velocity airguns don't have orange tips. They are rightfully considered weapons. Low velocity airguns (Airsoft, Nerf, etc.) are not. I own several "spring air" guns quite capable of 1200 fps pellet velocity.

I read where the Bad Guys will use a black marker to hide the orange tip. I'm waiting to hear of some genius painting a real gun's muzzle with orange.

I can't imagine why they would do this. Disguising a toy gun as a real one is just begging to be shot.

This has some validity, but I suspect a more successful camouflage would be to take a plastic bottle cap of appropriate size, paint that orange, and slip it over the muzzle. That would look a lot more like the toys than a real muzzle painted orange.

But I suspect that experienced cops wouldn't be fooled.

NYPD Identifies Man Shot and Killed After Police Say He Pointed an 'Imitation Firearm' at Officers

Police identify the man shot by cops after he allegedly robbed a Brooklyn bodega with what looked like a gun.

Officers responded to Starr Street near Irving Avenue in Bushwick at about 12:45 Sunday morning, after they say 18-year-old Sergio Reyes robbed Garden Deli and Grill.

Cops say they approached Reyes as he was walking down the street.

He then allegedly pointed an "imitation firearm" at them, prompting the cops to shoot him multiple times.

Reyes died at a nearby hospital.

A deli worker tells us he threatened to kill him during the hold up.

"He tells me bag it up again or I'm going to kill you," the clerk said. "After I bag it up I tell him take whatever you like. Money, whatever you like. Please don't kill me."

"It's not even worth it like pull a gun on someone try to kill them for a couple of beers. It's not even worth it."

Police say Reyes's gun was designed to look like a semi-automatic weapon, but they're unsure at this point what it was capable of doing.

This is the city's third police-involved shooting in the past week.

Yet that has happened. I think the idea is to fool the victim into thinking they are facing a real gun and therefore cave in.

I understand that some come with an orange plug, which is quickly removed. Suicidal in any event, when going up against cops though, something these brainiacs apparently never consider.
