Where in New Mexico? There are certain areas of that state that are lined with dopers, dealers and welfare families. Maybe it’s changed over the last 20 years.

Yes, it's gotten worse. ABQ is one of the most violent cities with random carjackings and other crime by the dopers looking for easy cash. The justice system sucks with the criminals getting out of jail on bond before the police complete reports and cases referred to the DA get dismissed because information for prosecution is not available within the statutory deadline. In many if not most cases when the criminals are caught they are known to the police as they are repeat offenders. One word of advice to visitors staying in area motels - take EVERYTHING out of your car and if you have a truck or trailer with your belongings, chain or have a kill switch otherwise it will be gone by morning.

A former friend of mine moved back there when he could not find steady work here in California. His one relative in the Bay Area asked him not to return, because he often ran with the wrong crowd. Some people are good inside, but are also needy or weak in character, and want to be liked, even by lowlifes. Haven’t heard from him in years. When I see that relative, I don’t ask her anything. I hope he’s out of jail for now.

Oh smart people won’t even stop in Albuquerque, it is so bad for theft of everything! I have some elderly relatives that stopped at a Casino during the day and someone tried to break into their motor home in the parking lot. They have an alarm and video that feeds to their phone so caught the guys- who ran and the police didn’t catch them.
