I presume this is the same student.

American University, School of International Service. Ahmad-Bilal Askaryar

Bilal Askaryar, MAID student. What is your concentration?

My area of concentration is human rights.

What led you to the International Development Program at SIS?

Most recently, I was working for a research organization in Kabul. One of the main things we studied was the efficacy of development projects. I also was an election observer for both rounds of the 2014 Afghan presidential elections as well as the UN-supervised audit afterward. My time in Afghanistan taught me that there is more to development than just economics and project-management. And that is why I chose AU versus other schools in the area. I was drawn to SIS' reputation for activism and social consciousness. I had fallen in love with Afghanistan and didn't want to leave to just take classes and get a degree without working on things that were important to me. At SIS, I am surrounded by intelligent people who are also passionate about making the world a more equitable place.

What have you been doing since coming to AU?

I started working at the embassy of Afghanistan as the communications and outreach liaison. It's a great way to complement my studies. I get to see DC from both scholarly and diplomatic points of view.

Do you have any plans for the upcoming semesters?

While I have experience in the development and diplomatic words now, my passion is human rights. I have seen first-hand what can happen to a society when people have to choose between voice and life. It's a universal struggle that can be applied to any marginalized group whether children and women, religious and ethnic minorities, or the LGBTQ community. So in my next stage as an SIS student, I hope to be involved more directly in efforts that fight for these communities and learn from the incredible people here at SIS and DC.

What do you plan on doing after graduation?

One thing I really appreciate about AU is how there are so many options for the future presented to you on a daily basis. Ideally, I'd love to work for a group that is committed to promoting human rights, equity, and sustainable development throughout the world. Most of my work and studies have been in the Middle East and Central Asia, but I am fascinated by Latin America as well. I hope to have a global career that lets me learn as much as I can about the whole word. So whether that means working for an agency like the United Nations or a private foundation, I look forward to it either way.

the lawyers work for free as a form of advertising.

Free to the defendant maybe. The government will get their bill. For sure.

Since it’s a criminal case, she doesn’t need to put up a dime. :=)

And with FEDERAL charges! No squishy local anti-Trump prosecutor to dismiss this as much ado about nothing.

“Alleged assault.” Nothing alleged about it.
As a crime, an assault is simply putting someone in fear of IMMINENT battery. A reasonable person could conclude that he did exactly that.
A battery is just an unwanted touching of a person’s body. The touching can be anything from a touch to serious bodily harm done.

Were he still in Afghanistan he would probably not be “queer” because man-boy love is normal for most Afghani. It is how you get release where there is no access to women until your family makes a deal to get you married and the honchos and rich guys take up all the women, 3 or 4 at a time. It goes, of course, back in part to the Greeks who owned that real estate two thousand plus years ago and the estimation of females as of a lower order of creature, mere labor and breeding stock. Real love is only possible between equals and that leaves out women. Sex between a physically adult male and a prepubescent boy is not regarded as homosexual. It is an attitude that suffuses all Arab and Arabized Moslem populations but in the others it is not so overt as it is in Afghanistan.

Well Barak Soetoro needs appropriate companionship and sometimes Reggie Love was off on a trip.

Charge is misdemeanor assault of two police officers, not Betsy DeVos.

The police report clearly indicates one incident of assault of a cabinet member (pushing and shoving with hand). Presumably the cabinet official is SecEd Betsy DeVos.

The police report indicates the three offenses are:

Offense #1: Assault of a police officer (Presumably Ofr. Wen Ai; Metropolitan DC police)
Offense #2: Failure to Obey Officer (Presumable Ofr. Wen Ai)
Offense #3: Assaulting Certain Officers (Cabinet member) (Presumably SecEd Betsy DeVos)
Where are you getting your information that two police officers were assaulted? 3.

Bilal Askaryar White House Visits, four times.

There are four items listed, but one is March 20, 2015 at 9:00 a.m. and another is March 20, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. Do you really believe those are two separate incidents? I rather doubt Askaryar left the White House between those two events.

I think it is important that we neither understate this case (the SecEd wasn't assaulted) or overstate this case (four visits when two line items were essentially the same visit).
