A dozen workers at a Catoosa restaurant are without a job today after getting fired for skipping work as a show of support for “A Day Without Immigrants.”
The restaurant workers are all Hispanic and they say it was important to them to participate in the national protest.
But they didn’t think it would cost them their jobs.
“They feel like they’ve been unfairly terminated," said a friend, translating for the employees.
The group worked at “I Don’t Care” Bar and Grill in Catoosa. They talked to us after they were fired for not showing up to work. They asked us to not show their faces or give their names.
“(They’ve) been working there for almost two years since the restaurant opened," said the friend.
The group willingly chose to stay home with others across the country supporting “A Day Without Immigrants.”
“(They’re) upset they stood for something they felt was necessary so the community would stand together, and they got terminated for that," said the friend,
The six are a part of a group of 12 kitchen staff let go.
The owner fired them by text message.
A message to one of the employees reads: "You and your family are fired. I hope you enjoyed your day off, and you can enjoy many more. Love you.”

Have been wondering about the effects of that boycott. It backfired the time they tried it in Phoenix. Less shoplifting, traffic congestion and accidents, etc.

As a former boos of mine said “You can’t do the job if you aren’t here.”
If any are illegal, they’d probably love to hang the boss with the info...but the risk is.......DEPORTATION.....
Probably so. Still, kinda enjoyable.
Are they illegals? If so, will the owner be investigated for hiring illegals?
If you are an immigrant, its because you want to be part of our community. You should stand with us.
If you won't stand with us, then you evidently value some other community over the one you supposedly want to be part of.
And, if you don't show up, you just proved we don't need you.

Employment is NOT there for your convenience...You are there for the company’s convenience....
If you don’t show up, it isn’t convenient for the company, so they’ll get some one who is...

They should’t have been working there in the first place. The employer knew it and the employee knew it. The employer should have stiff fines and the ILLEGALS should be deported.
I guess the restaurant liked the day without immigrants so much that the owners of the restaurant wanted to make it a permanent thing.
Maybe they were replaced by American kids.

If they are illegal why did he hire them in the first place is my question?
I LOVE the part where someone had to translate for them!!! This restaurant owner NEEDS to use e-verify when hiring!!!
