NBA joins NFL in warning Texas over proposed 'bathroom bill'

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) -- The NBA is warning Texas over a proposed "bathroom bill" targeting transgender people that is similar to a North Carolina law that prompted the league to move the All-Star Game out of that state.

The NBA on Friday joined the NFL in suggesting that Texas will be overlooked for future big events if lawmakers pass a bill requiring people to use bathrooms that correspond to the sex on their birth certificate.

NBA spokesman Mike Bass says an environment where people are treated "fairly and equally" weighs heavily when the league chooses host locations. Texas has three NBA teams and has hosted three All-Star Games since 2006.

When the Conservative States stick it to Pro and NCAA Sports, they will have to rethink their entire business model. Imagine the NBA finding out Texas really doesn’t give a damn about what they want, and nobody ever puts a dime into stadium/arena maintenance. I can see the NBA leaving Texas, NC... and then run out of Georgia, SC, Ohio, and dozen other states. By the time they reorganize their city teams, their viewership model and revenue stream from TV/Cable/Sat will have be cut based on a BOYCOTT demanding separate Team/Leauge subscription fees.

I’ve played basketball my whole life and even now, in my mid 30’s, still play two city league games a week year-round. I quit watching the NBA last year and this year I don’t miss it at all.

I will watch one NFL team next year because a personal friend’s son is expected to be a first round draft pick this year; I’ll watch the team that takes him but will ignore the teams I always follow (Patriots and Seahawks). I’m tired of being insulted by millionaire athletes, coaches and ESPN airheads.

Remember when the cool kids all ranted against “organized religion”? How about organized sports leagues?

NBA and NFL can shove it.

There was a playoff game bulls against jazz. Michael Jordon pushed the defender away and sank the game wining jumper. The referee was right there.

I watched the Sacramento Kings get jobbed by the refs at home for 10 years because they didn’t have a star and the refs protected the other team’s stars.

People can take 3 or more steps now.

Karl Malone making a living leaning in and pushing the defender away so he can get a clear shot in the paint. Also see James worthy.

Way too many time outs the last 90 seconds.

Kobe Bryant taking steps, forcing shots, being a ball hog, passing up open teammates and then acing after the game as if his shat doesn’t drink.

Players decode who their coach will be.

longer and longer games.

Three announcers all competing for the mic.

Half Time blabber on and on.

I’ve been done with this madness.

Umm, the NBA just might consider worrying more about a fan strike (including NBA merch and advertisers).

We're getting much stronger at defending our values, and I can live just fine w/o whatever they are hawking.

I mean, this is super-sicko
and
they’re alienating a whole lot of their paying customers, too
for nothing useful or valid at all

grown men do NOT belong in the Little Girls’ Room!
why does this have to be explained, or even discussed >???

Texas has a lot of sports fans. Not sure the pro leagues want to poke this tiger any more.

I guess the Texas needs to legislate for a “sports franchise tax”.

NFL, NBA, ESPN, Disney change your attitude or suffer the wrath of the people who actually spend their own money.

All of these sports teams can pound sand. I don’t think Texas is going to pass any kind of bathroom bill. I’ll have to check but I think our Lt. Gov. is dead-set against it and I think most Texans are too but if a good percentage think legalizing marijuana is a good thing, I may have to back track on most Texans being in favor of bathroom bill......sigh

Why would you think Texans would oppose a bill requiring people to use the facilities of their birth sex in public buildings?

Did you even read the article?

Don’t force me to choose, because professional sports must lose if this is their official position. See if I want to pay for that new stadium. And you can bet that any new (taxpayer funded) stadium will have progressive-approved rest rooms.

NBA & NFL bend over for a micro minority that may or may not ever attend one of your games, and alienate 99.9% of your customers. Smart move NOT.
