I’ve long thought that it would be a grand idea for some of the states prone to drought to create a series of cavernous cisterns along the major flood routes. That is, mine some deep, gigantic caverns in hard rock, lined to reduce seepage, and put great drains on the bottom, and once they are at capacity with flood water, slowly and methodically filter out the silt, salts and detritus.

Think of it as a below ground dam reservoir.

No range trip this weekend. Looks like the Sonoran National Desert is about to become the Sonoran National Swamp.

Hard pan here is at about 6 inches. Rain typically falls, pools in low areas and sits there until it evaporates. Some sections of road are likely to be submerged for a week.

Last summer we bought a truck & 5th-wheel and were planning t spend the winter WARM!
Didn’t work out and it’s been colder than normal for most of the winter and now this.
Guess I’m glad we didn’t go after all.
Some times bad things aren’t so bad after all.

Southern Califoria has had steady pouring rain since 11am today. Blowing sideways at times when I was out.

You mean something like the Anasazi did a thousand years ago?

The Anasazi were smarter than Gov Moonbeam Brown.

1 1/2 inches so far in my part of OC.

5 inches on the other side of LA, maybe 50 miles away

And I’ll be stuck in Laughlin for the rockabilly festival... Going to make for a very interesting gig :(
