First came the anxious calls in the days after the election of President Trump. Now, people begin lining up before 8 a.m. and crowd the waiting rooms inside the Mexican Consulate here.
Mexican citizens come to renew passports that have been unused for more than a decade. They desperately ask lawyers if they can do anything to help them stay in the United States. They register their children for Mexican citizenship, just in case they are sent back and decide to move their whole family with them.

When my french wife wanted citizenship she was there at 6am every time.
Why are they so afraid to go home?

If they're legal (citizen or legal resident) and afraid, they're being stupid. If illegal, they SHOULD live in fear of having their free ride curtailed. It's not even punishment that's being threatened, just a forcible stop to the crime. So in either case, no sympathy. Next case!

THE REALIZATION THAT THE ICE DEPORTATION "SWORD OF DAMACLEASE" IS HANGING OVER ALL OF THEIR HEADS AND THAT IT COULD LITERALLY FALL UPON THEM AT ANY TIME DAY OR NIGHT, WITHOUT WARNING MUST BE KEEPING THEM IN A CONSTANT STATE OF PERPETUAL PANIC!
Over time this overwhelming sense of impending dread will lead many of them to massive self deportation.
I can't wait for President Trump to "make some examples" by cracking down hard on employers of ILLEGAL ALIENS. Make a number of high profile arrests and prosecute these law breaking employers to the full extent of the law: Heavily fine them and sentence those found guilty to lengthy prison sentences and the rest will quickly fall into line and fire the ILLEGAL ALIENS they have employed. The ILLEGAL ALIENS will quickly "get the message" and self deport before ICE rounds them up.

The Mexican government is “pimping” out their people. They encourage them to flood our country with illegal....mostly cash workers so they can send most of those American dollars back to Mexico.
