Showing support for the national "Day Without Immigrants" protest, a popular restaurant in Takoma is closed on Thursday, Feb. 16.
Busboys and Poets will not serve customers at any of its six locations throughout the Washington, DC, area Thursday, including the Takoma restaurant at 235 Carroll St. NW.
"As an immigrant myself, I had a duty to stand in solidarity with my staff," owner Anas "Andy" Shallal, an Iraqi-American artist, activist and restaurateur told Patch. "We had a deep, heartfelt conversation and it was an easy decision. There are times when standing on the sidelines is not an option."

Maryland “Freak State” PING!
I was speaking with the framing construction supervisor of a large apartment complex being built near me.
He said his whole crew came to work yesterday, but many of the other trades didn’t show. Trade supervisors for many of them told the “strikers” to just take the rest of the week off...without pay.
Their politics have been well known for a long time, it’s pretty in your face lol That said, I don’t care... and I personally don’t do boycotts etc
