U.S. President Donald Trump was wasting his time deriding the media over their coverage of his administration, Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull said on Friday, citing the example of British wartime leader Winston Churchill.
Trump has repeatedly described media criticism of him as "fake news" since taking office last month, labeling the media as the "opposition party".
On Thursday, he dismissed a growing controversy about ties between his aides and Russia as a "ruse" and a "scam" perpetrated by a hostile news media.
Turnbull, whose relationship with Trump got off to a rocky start earlier this month, said the 45th American president should stop focusing on the media.
"A very great politician, Winston Churchill, once said that politicians complaining about the newspapers is like a sailor complaining about the sea," Turnbull told reporters in New Zealand on Friday.
"There is not much point. That is the media we live with and we have to get our message across and we thank you all in the media for your kind attention," he said.

Yep, and they are frantic over the threat of permanent disintermediation.
Moron.
This is a completely partisan media.
Thank God for the Internet and am radio...
On the other hand, I think he's a long term planner on matters which he does not have control and he recognizes it will take time to win in overcoming his adversaries; in this case, the media.
I keep in mind that it takes years to construct a 93 story building from concept to ribbon-cutting.

It is not a "growing controversy"; all the air deflated out of your ball on Thursday.
Turnbull, whose relationship with Trump got off to a rocky start earlier this month,
Billshut. Pure Billshut. #MoreFakeNews.

Winston Churchill lived in THE NINETEEN-FORTIES. We live in the modern era, WHERE WE CAN GO AROUND THE MEDIA.
"There is not much point. That is the media we live with and we have to get our message across and we thank you all in the media for your kind attention," he said.
Maybe in your country. Maybe you guys have to be lickspittles and buttboys for your media, as you clearly demonstrate. Not here.
Keep pounding away Mr. President.
Oh, and I love the author’s name: Swati Pandey.
Such an American flavor to it.
Better this than trying to appease the media.

LOL, geez, talk about groveling? I wonder if Turnbul says “May I” before he drops to his knees and unzips the reporters?

No, it’s not a waste of time. In fact, it’s a “kick in the teeth” the Americans demand and deserve to see.
The MSM is the Country’s greatest threat.
We conservatives are always being told “the times have changed”. This is one area when they have. First, the newspapers and other media of our era have shed the pretension of common decency and integrity that were once assumed. The journalists of Churchill’s era generally had a love of country that is gone now.
Trump is also able to say “squirrel!” as needed to use the media’s own narcissism and fanaticism against them. Instead of a constant drum beat on one topic to wear down a mark (they were trying it with Flynn), Trump’s folks only have to call on a Christian Broadcasting Network guy and a Townhall.com guy and call some outlets “VERY unfair” to maneuver them into asking fairer questions on different topics (April Ryan) or to over-pursue, making themselves look silly and small (Acosta). A win either way.
Nothing against Churchill, he was undoubtedly a greater mind. It would be nothing against George Halas, either, if I suggested that his i-formation wouldn’t fare so well against the New England Patriots. The weapons are different, there are more of them, and the rules are different too. Finally, the U.S. isn’t the UK or Australia and Trump’s way has worked since the times of Andrew Jackson and Teddy Roosevelt.
Looks like more fake news. The headline says “Australian PM says Trump wasting his time” but I noticed that he did not mention Trump’s name and there is no indication of what the question was. It seems to be just his opinion about talking about the low-quality media, which he is entitled to have even if it is wrong.
They have lowered their reporting of politics to the level of trying to make up disputes between reality television show contestants in order to get more views.
“I keep in mind that it takes years to construct a 93 story building from concept to ribbon-cutting.”
It does take years, many of them but back in the 1930’s when the Empire State Bldg was built it took just 410 days, 1 year and 45 days too erect what was at the time the worlds tallest building.
And then the government decided somehow they were needed to “regulate” the process. That same building today would take a decade including the permitting processes and all the other nonsense imposed on the process.
The Trump presser reminded me of question hour in the Brit Parliment.
The propaganda from the media has bcome absurd. It is dangerous when classified information is published. The media are doing a disservice to the voters. Voters should be informed about this deceit from the media. Trump has a duty to make voters aware of the deceit and propaganda.
He certainly won’t change the media. But, he’s having a big impact on us. And hopefully, other Americans who weren’t aware of the daily fraud being perpetrated on them by the fake media.
And, you just cannot buy entertainment like that.
Especially when you construct that building on time and under budget.
Exactly. Some have said that the leftist, so-called 'mainstream media' gives the democrats an automatic 15 point advantage in any national election. President Trump is systematically and effectively taking that power away from these insidious propagandists. He took that entire 'Fake News' meme propagated by the democrat left, and trumpeted by their MSM operatives and turned it against them.
Look what happened to George W. Bush when he refused to fight back against the daily assaults by the mainstream media. He was destroyed politically and gave complete control of our government to the domestic enemies of the far left.
Isn’t this guy a liberal?
Mr. Turnbull: You aren’t “wasting your time” when you’re doing the very things that got you elected in the first place.
