As it is, you get three strikes before you are deported. Change the law to only one strike. DUI is a very serious crime and thousands of people are killed or maimed every year.
Is this law Georgia only or is it Federal??
It’s a charm?
I guess, once they decided not to deport Uncle Omar they had to do this for everybody ...
Federal, though I don’t think it’s a law, just policy. Quite a bit of publicity over a lady deported in Arizona a couple weeks ago, husband and kids decided on their own to stay here so the separation was their choice, but the crime was one dui. Felony dui, so probably more to it than just exceeding the limit. But one conviction. If Obama wanted it to be three, he should have had a law passed his first two years. Heck, he could let cocaine dealers and gun trafficers stay her two. But he didn’t, so Trump gets to enforce existing law, not liberal wet dreams.
Don’t think it’s a law, just policy. The article refers to it as a “rule”. Note my last post, you can be convicted of felony dui on a first offence. Usually it takes an accident or injuries, but in the example in my last post, in Arizona a suspended license is enough.
I wasn’t clear. Georgia law would govern the dui charge. Deportation is federal.
Not entirely unreasonable. Plus it's their country, they get to decide who comes in, even to visit. Had an acquaintance who had is annual fishing trip interrupted due to a misdemeanor disturbing the peace conviction. They allowed him in the country to obtain an attorney who got it waived, cost him several days fishing. People going to Canada should be aware and deal with it before turning up at the border. I do wonder how they know at the border, they obviously have access to US databases.
That’s California, let the drunks go there. Note the law (California not Federal) isn’t not to deport, rather not to notify federal authorities. Today they don’t notify federal authorities about much.
They’re probably out there. My guess the beneit, revenue to local government and local attorneys outweighs the cost of enforcement. You can find numbers of studies about the level of intoxication, they generally point to an accident risk level well above the .08 standard. There are probably studies out there pointing to revenue raised by .08 as well.
I called MADD about this to find out what their position was.
They basically don’t care if it’s an illegal who killed 5 nuns in a car. They don’t want to know if illegals are killing more people than citizens.
I do NOT want one more cent spent on these folks!!
Get rid of them BEFORE any jail time.
If we find them BACK in our country again...
