Donald Trump ... a news conference for the ages
Washington Post ^ | 2/16/17 | Chris Cillizza

Posted on 02/16/2017 2:03:07 PM PST by bobk333

Donald Trump entered the East Room on Thursday reeling from a week filled with resignations, withdrawals and continued questions surrounding his campaign's contacts with Russia.

What followed was an hour-long, full-throated attack on Trump's favorite foil: the media.

“Many of our nation's reporters will not tell you the truth,” Trump said.

“The press honestly is out of control,” Trump said.

“The level of dishonesty is out of control,” Trump said.

And that was before he even took a single question!

It was a return for Trump to what worked for him during the course of the 2016 campaign: A circuslike atmosphere in which he uses the media — and his supporters' distrust of the media — as a sort of tackling dummy to re-center the narrative on ground more favorable to him. Trump didn't just run down the media — although he did a lot of that — but he also mocked various outlets, reviewed shows on cable TV that he likes (and doesn't), told reporters to sit down and be quiet, and critiqued the quality of the questions he was being asked.

There was a rawness to his attacks, a personal invective that seemed well beyond the typically antagonistic relationship that exists between the media and the president they cover.

Why do it? Because Trump understands something very important: For his supporters, the media represent everything they dislike about American society. The media is composed, to their mind, of Ivy-League-educated coastal elites who look down their noses at the average person, dismissing them and their views as stupid and ill-informed. For people who feel like their voices weren't and aren't heard in politics — or culture more broadly — the media is the perfect scapegoat.

A week “filled” with resignations?
How many does it take to “fill” a week?

Love that expression. It’s so funny that the guy that said that ended up in jail, as did almost everyone else associated with Nixon.

The word “helpless” keeps coming to mind.

These folks long ago let the Leftist propagandists own their minds.

A few thousand depolorables need to amass outside Obama’s shadow Government Headquarters / residence and stand vigil. Time to let the people do the talking.

It's called projection, the uncontrollable auto response of the left.

“Antagonistic”?
The press calls his wife a whore.
The press says he sexually abuses his daughter.
The press says his son is autistic.
“Antagonistic” surely not the press. They are just perfect angels.

In any normal situation they would be ass whipped and sat down in a bucket of salt.

Glad to see they got bitched slapped. They deserve much worse.

The people Obama left who are corrupt or have malintent, or are tools of corruption and malintent, is legion.

MALINTENT is technological system that was developed by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security to be implemented for detection of potential terrorist suspects. The system does various test scanning for elevated blood pressure, rapid heart and breath rate, and non-verbal cues.

The media is in a tizzy and shep smith has his panties in a wad.

I think the LSM is in a meltdown over the change in the rules and they can't cope with someone who does not suck up to them. For years their conduct has been arrogant with republicans to completely collaborative with obummer and the wicked witch of the east.

They are getting b!tc# slapped now and they are crying. Last time I enjoyed a presidential news conference so much was when helen thomas was banished.

Reeling? What an annoying, untruthful characterization. I SAW the entrance, Mr. Zilla. He sauntered in. I HEARD him handle the shouted, angry questions and charges. The guy in the room that never once lost his composure? The President of the the United States.

You can’t feed us this crappola when we have the eyes to see and ears to hear.

You guys are gonna need some new material.

It’s about damn time somebody fought back against those sanctimonious elitist s.o.b.’s!!

Not since Spiro Agnew have we had someone so vocal with the press. Rush commented on that today. I remember Spiro's biting comments today, Nattering Nabobs of Negativity. Too bad he was a crook.

Rawness...full-throated...oh the drama...actually it was half throated.

He could have dished more.

I would love to hear the MSM conversations over their martinis at their bars tonight...that would be highly entertaining!

What do you think they will say to each other?

MSNBC twitter hysteria. Fake news and salty tears

Chuck Todd ‏@chucktodd

This not a laughing matter. I'm sorry, delegitimizing the press is unAmerican

In response to Trump mentioning Rasmussen has him at 55% approval rating

Joe Scarborough ‏@JoeNBC Ignore the BS, witchcraft polls. The gold standard is @Pew which has the president at 39%.

The last week of October, Joe's gold standard Pew Poll had Hillary winning 46% to 40% and the witchcraft Rasmussen has it 43% to 42%.

They’ll pat themselves on the back and congratulate one another in the belief that they’re making him look bad, same as ever. They’re on a different planet, falling ratings don’t register with them until the axe falls. Being rock bottom in public opinion polls doesn’t register. They’re going to do what they’re going to do until they can’t do it anymore, so they need to keep on being at the receiving end of pointed, humorous ridicule in these Presidential news conferences, every time they slant and lie. Think of it as mercy killing. They just don’t realize they’re being euthanized.

IF the law would allow, the perfect gifts to be handed to each media type at the beginning of each press conference would be: 1. A paper bag to breathe into, in order to regulate oxygen levels, and 2. A new string of pearls to clutch.

Hopefully with an Ivanka Trump logo on each item.

Unfortunately that requires that the history books are not written by leftist kooks the way they are now, thereby meaning the leftist agenda is completely destroyed by Trump and I truly hope this happens but even that is a tall order to complete in 8 short years.

They’re cutting their own throats and they don’t even know.
