so angry

Nope not at all. Just laughing my ass off at the fact that anyone would try to make anything of the fact that someone is Episcopalian except that they are Episcopalian.

To try to assign some sort of doctrinal views to Episcopalianism is a logical absurdity. We were established by a man who decided to substitute himself in place of the pope on matters of doctrinal infallibility so that he could practice serial womanizing. But it did become the establishment religion of England and therefore parts of the U.S. and spread west with the banks and law offices.

It's just a nice sort of clubby establishment thing. Episcopalians are enough of an organized religion that they can call themselves Christians without too much hypocrisy. They cite the Nicaean Creed. But if you want a doctrinal dispute you are going to have to claim that the mayonnaise on the potato salad at the church social is rancid or that it's too much that Buffy and Jesse were caught in the parking lot sipping from a hipflask at the Church dance.

The closest you could get to being able to accuse someone of anything for being Episcopalian is perhaps lack of belief, but that isn't quite true either. They will profess to believe whatever they need to believe to be members of the club, but it isn't ardent. It's like the country club charter. No one really reads the rules. You just act like gentlemen, pay your dues and enjoy the privileges. And it certainly isn't revolutionary. Some ministers may be radicalized, but their flock is rather infertile ground for any of that nonsense. Sermons are something you sleep through. It's a cost of being in the community.

So yeah, I think it ridiculous that anyone would try to figure out anything about Gorsuch from the fact that he is Episcopalian, except perhaps that his parents came from the establishment. But we knew that anyway.

I’m not raising a flag because he’s Espicopalian, but rather the specific local church he is a member of, the pastor and her beliefs. It’s hard to imagine continuing attendance and membership without an assumption (or fear) that he’s ok with his pastors ideology.

To an extreme, how many Freepers rejected the notion that Obama sat in Jeremiah Wright’s church for 20 years and didn’t buy into Wright’s ideology?
