PLO Warns Trump, ‘Don’t Walk Away From 2-State Solution’

A White House official said the US won't impose any "solution" on Israel or the PA: it will support a deal reached together.

Officials in the Palestine Liberation Organization and Palestinian Authority warned U.S. President Donald Trump on Wednesday not to walk away from the so-called “two-state solution” to their seemingly endless conflict with Israel.

The president meets with Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Wednesday.

The warning came in response to remarks by a senior White House official who said the United States will no longer impose any “solution” to peace on either party, but rather would support whatever deal the two sides reach together.

“A two-state solution that doesn’t bring peace is not our goal that anybody wants to achieve,” the official said at a White House briefing, according to several media sources. “Peace is the goal, whether it comes in the form of a two-state solution if that’s what the parties want or something else, if that’s what the parties want, we’re going to help them.”

Husam Zomlot, strategic affairs adviser to Palestinian Authority leader Mahmoud Abbas in Ramallah, said in a phone interview with Reuters in Jerusalem, “The two-state solution is not something we just came up with. It is an international consensus and decision after decades of Israel’s rejection of the one-state democratic formula.”

Hanan Ashrawi, a senior member of the Palestine Liberation Organization, was quoted as saying, “If the Trump Administration rejects this policy it would be destroying the chances for peace and undermining American interests, standing and credibility abroad,” in response to the U.S. official’s remarks.

“Accommodating the most extreme and irresponsible elements in Israel and in the White House is no way to make responsible foreign policy,” she added in a statement to the A-Sharq Al-Awsat English-language news site.

Having relatives that survived the holocaust or being an Orthdox Jew does not make you a savvy political powerhouse that can negotiate peace...uh..don’t you think there are plenty of people that fit that category that have already tried?

Kushner is a babe in the woods in this White House.

Kick out the Arabs into Egypt - their real home - and annex Gaza to Israel.
The southern border will be the Sinai, and the western border the Med. Perfectly secure.

It inoculates you from being called naive re the threats to Israel and what are the consequences of a bad deal. Bibi has known him from childhood. Having these personal connections are useful.

Having a new perspective is not bad. Trump got elected to office promising change. He had never run for elective office in his life yet he was able to overcome far more experienced and "qualified" opponents in the primary and beat Hillary whom Obama called the most qualified candidate in history. I gather you are not a big Trump fan.

Kushner is a babe in the woods in this White House.

He like Trump is an outsider. He is not part of the sclerotic GOPe and the political class. Why not give Kushner and Trump a chance to broker a deal? What do we have to lose? What we do know is that Israel will not negotiate away its very survival.

As one that remembers the bloodiness of the ‘vintage 1972 P.L.O.’, they can go suck an egg!

Jared is a negotiator all his life, in the tough New York market.

Hillary, Kerry, Powell, Ms. C Rice, Albright, none of them really where negotiators, most political hacks.

I agree I don’t think the PLO wants peace unless their money is cut off so they can’t enhance their Swiss Bank Accounts. Peace means they have to rule a people who are lazy and only know violence.

Trump’s statement that he is open to ideas other than the “2 state solution” is a very big shift in American policy. The media has barely covered this issue as they are still stuck on the days old Flynn story and otherwise crying about what they think is unfair treatment during press conferences. This alone proves Trump’s point. They are ignoring big stories because they want to continue their anti-Trump crusade.
