Did I get it backwards?

Could be but I do know that the Nazi symbol was always on an angle.

The angle doesn’t matter, it’s the direction of the arms that is the distinguishing feature. The nazis always used it with the arms bent clockwise, while Hindus and Buddhists use either variation.

But I was just commenting on the terms you used. Yes, everyone calls the Nazi symbol a “swastika”, but that is actually a sanskrit word. Hakenkreuz (literally “hooked cross”) is the German term.
