SANTA ANA, Calif. -- Actor Harrison Ford was involved in an aviation incident at John Wayne Airport in which he flew over a passenger airliner and landed in the wrong location.
The actor was cleared to land on a runway at John Wayne and correctly read back the instructions. Instead, his single-engine Aviat Husky landed on a taxiway that sits parallel to the runway and flew above a Boeing 737 on the ground.
The American Airlines 737, with 110 passengers and six crew onboard, was bound for Dallas-Ft. Worth as it sat at the intersection of two taxiways. The passenger jet was waiting for Ford's plane to land on the runway in front of them, but instead it flew over them and landed on the taxiway.
The FAA says it is investigating the incident.
Ford's representatives had no immediate comment.
Ford was injured in a small plane crash back in 2015.
It’s time for Han Solo to let someone else do the flying.
May get a suspension out of this. He may need to prove his sufficiency again.
Repeat performance from 4 or 5 years ago, maybe longer.
His three previous incidents did not find fault with the pilot. I hope the old boy is doing OK, he is 73.
Oops! It is easy to get confused up there, he probably thought he was landing where he was directed to land. He will get a verbal thrashing and that is about it.
Yeah, maybe Han Solo should not.......
Was he flying the aircraft the ship that made the Kessel run in less than 12 parsecs?
I would imagine he’s flown into John Wayne airport quite a bit, even though his home airport seems to be Santa Monica.
Linked below is a good all-round report on him and his infatuation with flying, beginning when he was 52 years old.
2015.
Consider alcohol in the pilot’s serum as a factor in these types of incidents.
Chewie had a bad feeling about this...
Watch him blame the wookie for it ...
See my #14.
A year, I’ll bet.
“I didn’t know you could fly a plane!”
“Fly, yes. Land, no”
Has he claimed “it’s not my fault” yet?
Well it will be interesting to see what his explanation is, but I can’t believe he deliberately landing on a taxiway sans an emergency of some sort. In any case he effed up big time.
Well, Gee. I fly into this airport a couple of times a year..
