"Officials are anticipating a failure of the Auxiliary Spillway at Oroville Dam within the next 60 minutes (5:45 p.m.)," the California Department of Water Resources said on Facebook.

The Yuba County Office of Emergency Services said on Facebook an evacuation has been for "all Yuba County on the valley floor."

The city of Marysville and Yuba County have been ordered to evacuate, the Marysville Police Department tweeted.

I saw a recent (yesterday or earlier today probably) video of the area immediately below the emergency spillway; it was covered with large boulders, and they were pumping concrete into the spaces between them, essentially grouting them.

Hopefully, that will stabilize the spillway base.

Water breaches spillways all the time on Lake James. That’s why they are designed as part of the dam.

There is a hole under the emergency spillway.

All bets are off. The spillway wall is 1700 ft long and 30 feet high.

The lake would drain about 1 million acre feet in an hour.

I’m in law enforcement. They did their best to train me to be proactive and deal with danger and fear. Yes, the ‘failure’ is a ‘leak’... not the 30’ potential catastrophic wall of water if the ‘leak’ opens up the emergency spillway and the earthen dam breaks thru.
