The California Department of Water Resources issued a sudden evacuation order shortly before 5 p.m. Sunday for residents near the Oroville Dam in northern California, warning that the dam’s emergency spillway would fail in the next 60 minutes.

The Oroville Dam is the highest in the nation.

Yes. That is a question I ask myself often.

That “stimulus”, whenever I see “The American Reinvestment and Recovery Act” on a sign, my blood pressure spikes.

It was supposed to fix infrastructure, but was spent in my area on Health Care benefits for teachers, welcome centers for a state park, and fancy Dodge Interceptors for police departments. I can only verify the health care and welcome center, because that is what I ended up researching.

That crap just burns me up. What makes me even angrier is that it wasn’t even our taxpayer money that was spent. We BORROWED that money to spend, and just opened the coffers to anyone who applied for money.

I don’t live in your state, but nearly every state has things just like that, and it makes me crazy.

An earthen dam? Let’s hope it isn’t like the Johnstown Flood.

I guess skeleton, testicles, and brain transplants are out of the question for him.

I saw that, and my gut tells me this dam is doomed. The water will find a way, and we are going to be helpless to do anything about it. Those people in the path should leave immediately.

Whoa. That didn’t take long. I wonder how far down..and how far on either side the bedrock is located... read earlier reports of helicopter carrying rocks. That may do some good in some areas but I doubt they’d stop anything there. Prayers for those dealing with this.

Read a comen’s section on fb...at least one ranchers was taking count of his extra board/wire, etc. To make room for extra livestock due to evacuation. Heartbreaking...

Awful. Point is, there is nothing that can be done about it now. When things begin failing like that, it exits the realm of what human engineering, and the forces of nature and God take over.

Like a typhoon, tsunami, earthquake, or volcano eruption. All we can do is get out of the way.

Pray for those people.

This is so stupid. Idiots building a $80 billion dollar train instead of water control and collection.

First things first.

So much for that strategy.

http://www.americanthinker.com/blog/2017/01/jerry_browns_bullet_train_fiasco_and_trump.html

California governor Jerry Brown has staked out the turf as President-Elect Trump’s opponent, hiring Eric Holder to gin up a legal strategy and appointing Congressman Xavier Bacera as his A.G. to oppose anticipated Trump policies in sanctuary cities, the environment, and what some call California’s “values.”

But I have to wonder if Brown doesn’t have a vulnerable flank in this battle: the looming financial collapse of his most cherished project, the so-called “bullet train” between the Bay Area and Los Angeles. Yesterday, the Los Angeles Times published information from a “confidential” Federal Railroad Administration report that was leaked to it revealing absolute incompetence and out-of-control overspending on the first segment under construction. The report by Ralph Vartabedian should be read in its entirety to grasp the level of chaos in the project:

California’s bullet train could cost taxpayers 50% more than estimated ...

No kidding on the preppers. Nothing wrong with doing it but you have to keep a sense of proportion. My father started in the late 60s believing that economic and government collapse was right around the corner. The paranoia associated with this is not good for very young kids; really any kids. In some ways, it is almost disappointing. Bottom line, no one can predict the future.

the other bottom line. the one you eluded to is that young kids or anyone should not dwell on negative stuff all the time. prepare for disaster but live your life like there is a thousand tomorrows

I would be furious if I lived anywhere near this dam. Unresponsive government is inexcusable. The hell with the train, fix the damned dam.

There was almost an info blackout yesterday.....no official  video or live shots of the emergency spillway...but i saw on youtube a shot from a distance and noticed the road that goes to the boatramp completely eroded away...and it was undercutting bad...but then at the press conference in the afternoon they said “mininmal” erosion and Im like WTF?

the good news is that 100,000 continue to spill of of the controlled spillway ehich means it must not be doing any more great damage at those rates

With the size of the area below the damn that could be devastated, I will say two words for an investment opportunity — Porta Potties.

In the 93 floods I had a lot of emergency repair construction to perform and facilities to get back on line. I rented two dozen porta-potties in advance. Because there were no good operating toilets in flood areas, this turned out to be something of a money maker and work facilitator.
