Cedar Rapids is very Catholic, as high a percentage as Boston. Catholics in eastern Iowa are the reason Iowa has trended Democrat in the recent past.
Iowa in general has a higher proportion of mainstream liberal denomination adherents than the US average. Iowa’s touted Evangelicals are influential because of hard work, not because of numbers
