The most forceful action by UC Berkeley police recently against hordes of demonstrators protesting a campus appearance by right-wing agitator Milo Yiannopoulos was to shoot pepper-and-paint balls at them from a distance.
Compared with past demonstrations, campus police in this case were positively kind

If taking steps necessary to ensure the safety and well-being of our students meant forgoing some arrests in the short term, or giving up a few windows, well take that trade-off any day, he said.
Please Mr. Mogulof provide us with your address so I can swing by and chuck a brick through your front window. Somehow I have a feeling that you would call the police.
“Space to destroy”
ahh ... “safety” = non-enforcement of laws against leftists & anarchists!
Funny how the SF Chronical doesnt see this as a gay hate crime...
The campus police failed to protect the civil rights of free speech and free assembly of those who wished to speak hear and be heard at the lecture, failed to protect property, failed to protect people who were physically assaulted by the mob and did not arrest any individuals who committed felonies. Overall they were ineffective and have earned no respect or honor.
When the mobs begin taking down UC Berkeley cops, I’ll be sure to not give a damn.
They aren’t protesters. They are criminals and should be treated as such.
Note to Berkeley rioters: if youre breaking glass at night because a gay, Jew is speaking, youre not protesting fascism. You are fascism.
If taking steps necessary to ensure the safety and well-being of our students meant forgoing some arrests in the short term, or giving up a few windows, well take that trade-off any day.
So the little marxist is admitting that the civil rights of liberals trump the civil rights of those who wished to engage in ‘freedom of association’ and ‘freedom of speech’?
I suppose some animals are more equal than others.
“All right, men, women and in-between. Our next training session will be on shivering with fear and hiding. After lunch and doughnuts, we’ll get into pretending not to see crime and writing politically correct police reports.”
Still, this is a somewhat more balanced account.
Kudos to reporter for quoting people who got beat up by cops in the 60s Free Speech demonstrations-—and are now siding with the police, and calling the Blackshirts the bad guys in this go-round.
That’s refreshing, IMO.
This is a really good deal for anarchists as they now know where to go to destroy businesses and burn building to the ground without fear of arrest.
The broken windows were not just at the university but also at private businesses such as Starbucks, a cell phone store and a bank. Those businesses could not open the next day, no revenue was earned, no employees paid and no taxes accrued.
Safety of whom?
In the videos I saw dark clad masked men where beating a girl student with a stick. A Good Samaritan saved her. Where was the campus police?
Lest it go unsaid, those were the Breitbart paramilitaries. Robert Reich, the noted economist, said so, well, he said, he had heard, but had no verifying information, but just wanted to get the news-which some might think is fake news - but Robert Reich distances himself from all fake news - out there so that you can decide whether it is news or fake news.
Just bear in mind the seriousness of the charge. It's fake but accurate.
My question is how do these folks keep all of this in their tiny little brains without there heads exploding from the centrifugal force of it all. I guess their skull-cases are really thick.
Actually that is a good idea. How about a protest against the anarchists at their homes . I know it would never happen but a girl can dream.
I wonder what they would have done had it been pro-life demonstrators causing the ruckus, eh..?
GOSH I WONDER.
The Berkeley cops did EXACTLY the same as the San Jose cops, when pre-election Pro-Trump people were funneled into an ambush:
NOTHING.
People were openly chased down and there were even cases in which panicky, pursued people ran up to fire trucks..
WHICH CLOSED THEIR DOORS AND BUTTONED UP, providing no refuge from beatings.
Why, if the police had done their jobs, a fellow traveler might have been inconvenienced! Perhaps even injured! The horror!
If Robert Reich's fantasy of a conservative riot in Berkeley ever comes true, expect a brutal response from the police, and full approval of that brutality from the Chronicle.
