Maybe since I’m an American, I find it hard to understand how he could be prevented from leaving for 50 years, in spite of not being in prison. Are all of the Indian borders really so tightly guarded? I’m impressed. At least he was not alone during this whole time.

The guy's holding a picture of his wife(?). In the US, there was that 70 year old guy robbing a bank to get into prison to get away from his wife.

Correlation?

I don’t think Wang was the sharpest knife in the drawer.

Reminds me of the “last” Japanese soldier holed-up on some deserted Pacific island (till 1975!) who didn’t get word that they lost the war in 1945. He was still defending the island all by himself 30 years later!

my guess is he got lost and then did not want to return out of fear that he would be shot for desertion. but it is just a guess
