Trump says he will bring down the price of wall on Mexico's border

President Donald Trump pushed back early on Saturday on assertions that the wall he wants built on the U.S. border with Mexico would cost more than anticipated and said he would reduce the price.

Trump made his comments in two Twitter posts but did not say how he would bring down the cost of the wall.

Reuters on Thursday published details of an internal report by the Department of Homeland Security that estimated the price of a wall along the entire border at $21.6 billion. During his presidential campaign Trump had cited a $12 billion figure.

Carumba! Mexico will pay, but will get no kickbacks to ruling elite Mexican oligarchs, serendipity.

In any government contract job there are always two union guys standing around watching the guy with less seniority who gets paid the least actually do the work. If you eliminate just one of the high paid guys, the cost of labor goes down by over a third.

We could build it with cheap labor. But make them work on their side.

Love it - he’s aware that many are already touting “potential cost overruns” as a sign he is clueless and also knows that many estimates are based on past regimes and processes. I don’t care if it “balloons” to $30 billion - still worth every penny even if Mexico is slow to pay.

Trump needs to look into convict labor. Pay them a small hourly wage so the batshit-crazies can’t have a cow. They make money, get some fresh air and exercise, and the govt saves money, a win-win.

Trump won’t let the scumbags bloat the cost as they did in The Big Dig, and N.Y. skating rink. I expect the wall to be built ahead of schedule and under budget.

Yes, convict labor. Why should convicts sit around in prison all day on their comfy chairs, munching goodies and watching TV, while us peons work our heads off to pay the billions of tax dollars that pay for their imprisonment?

If we could suspend FedGov laws like Davis-Bacon and affirmative-action minority contract set-asides in building the wall, it would certainly bring the price down and probably end up with superior construction.

Since the wall is an element of national security, I wonder if there is some national-security exemption that can be invoked by the president to avoid these expensive requirements?

Plus ya could force the convicts to save a percentage, and pay it to them plus interest, when they finish their time and are released. It’ll give ‘em a better fresh start.

I will volunteer to work on for two weeks a year if they pay my plane fair, feed me and make my time tax deductible at $20.00/hr.

Ahead of schedule and under budget. All with excellent workmanship.

With upgrades installed after construction on a timely basis and in response to a real defined requirement.

A physical wall, alone, is not so much. A better barrier would include automated surveillance, quick response to attempted breaches, and swift sure apprehension.

Then at the authorized gates, a highly accessible but secure data base on the incoming traffic across the border.

There may still be evasions, but the invaders are really going to have to work at their strategies.

It wouldn’t surprise me if the $21.6B and 3 yrs to build are intentionally inflated numbers so that it will be easier for Trump to get the project done under budget and ahead of schedule.

We got the “San Francisco Bay Bridge” the biggest foreign profit, sub standard boondoggle in history because SF and Cal is the exact opposite of Trump management.

There is nothing better than a nice tall wall. Walls are apolitical and can’t be cut out of next years budget.

I have no doubt that he can get the wall much cheaper and still be good. Trump loves to drive the prices down that are more acceptable for him. He’s been doing it all his life.
