A Tarrant County jury on Thursday sentenced a Mexican woman to eight years in jail a day after convicting her of two counts of illegal voting by a non-citizen. She will also have to pay an $8,000 fine.

During the trial, prosecutors showed that Rosa Maria Ortega -- a 37-year-old Mexican national who public records show has lived in the Dallas area since she was 15 -- falsely claimed U.S. citizenship on a voter registration form and voted five times between 2004 and 2014 ...

Eight years is a little harsh

Illegals voting is skewing our freedom. With some votes being as close as they are, it has to be harsh to stop these invaders from taking over our country.

Have to agree with you there. Just get them out of here so they can't vote illegally and suck up more welfare benefits, especially if the start popping out kids because you know how fast Mexcan families multiply plus they start bringing over more to do the same. Its not a slam . It's just fact after many decades of observation here.

I bet a good prosecutor could raise illegal voting to the level of treason.

“8 years is a little harsh.”

Punishment, in order to be effective, must be both a bit cruel and unusual.

This woman, and millions like her, have taken the one thing that every legal citizen wields with equal force and blunted it.

The VOTE, regardless of ones station at birth, educational background, financial success or any other device by which we measure ourselves, is the one thing that makes each citizen truly equal.
For those who are not legal citizens to vote in our elections is worse than stealing food from our tables or money from our pockets.
They are stealing our heritage and our future.

Perfect. It would be better if they deported her and paid Mexico their cost to keep her in prison, but I’m more than happy if they keep her in prison for eight years and then deport her.

I can’t wait for the next 11 million (or more) to be checked.

8 years is a little harsh.

The Americans living under the consequences of her vote (likely Obama) has been a 'little harsh' (see ObamaCare). An example needs to be set, and she is it. No pity for me; none at all.

> We can deport her, but until the border has been secured, she’ll come right back. They just get new fake id. Was common knowledge when I lived in San Diego.

They could take fingerprints or other bionetric scans on the incoming and outgoing immigrants, illegal or otherwise. If you don't catch them incoming you will outgoing so they can't come back if they violate felony laws in our country. Voting illegally mutiple times should be a felony. Sounds like the gal also committed forgery. You usually find out they borrowed someone else's ID to live over here as well. The liberal are so ignorant and naive to the types of problems they cause on so many levels. Many ruin other people's lives by stealing their IDs.

The phrase “with no chance of returning” seems somewhat meaningless, given that she was here illegally.

I’ll echo the deterrent factor someone else mentioned regarding the “harsh” sentence, but also, without knowing the laws in Texas, I’m guessing that she gets out and gets deported long before the 8 years are up, under some probation arrangement, assuming good behavior while incarcerated.

I respectfully disagree with having the USA taxpayer covering ‘three hots and a cot’ for any amount of time especially when jail is probably an upgrade in living accommodations.

Insert a chip in each deportee and put ‘em on a bus to where-ever.

I think the 8 year sentence will be reduced to a lesser term. They do this frequently. It was set to a longer term to ensure she would absolutely serve time.

Then under our laws she will be deported and not permitted to return due to the felony offense.

8 years is a little harsh.

That would have been our MINIMUM sentence under "President Hillary"...

I might have been harsher.

If it is a state trial and sentence, you have to divide by eight to find the actual time behind bars. TDC WILL let her out in a year.

Pour encourager les autres The alternative would have been 40 years of mooching off the taxpayers, with the opportunity to furnish us with a half a dozen new citizens.

Destroying the fabric of our Representative Republic is a serious crime against us - 8 years is not harsh enough — for those who vote illegally or for those that aid and abet..

As long as our border is porous, she'll be back. And you have been "taking care" of her with your taxpayer money all along--if she is like many illegals, she works for cash with no taxes deducted and receives "free" health care and welfare that you are paying for.

I think they are completely aware of the problems they cause. They are engaged in Cloward-Piven tactics to completely collapse the economic structure of the US. What they are blind to is the fact that utopia will not and cannot result if they are successful.

I also agree with your idea.
Give the illegals 90 days to self deport with all their stuff, because after 90 days they will be deported without their possessions. Just like in the war on drugs, sell what the criminals illegally obtained: houses, cars, everything; and the funds go to the state and feds to be used for law enforcement.
