The Chernobyl accident was almost 31 years ago and they are STILL trying to figure out how to keep it from becoming a further threat to the surrounding environment. Some have calculated that if the makeshift "sarcophagus" collapses the resulting radioactive dust could reach parts of Western Europe.

I was stationed in Germany when Chernobyl blew up. Radio active cloud went right over my house. The day after it passed they reminded us to make sure we decon our shoes prior to entering a building.

That does not make any sense, since if you look at recent pictures of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, they are both thriving, ultra modern, bustling and beautiful. While our cities such as Detroit which received no radiation are an unmitigated disaster.
