Are you a Nationalist or a Patriot?

Nationalism is a complex, multidimensional concept involving a shared communal identification with one’s nation. Identity, solidarity, and self determination are the core values of nationalism. The preservation of a nation’s culture, the ability of a nation to self govern, and close links to patriotism are characteristics of nationalism. Nationalism is not inherently evil, but it can turn dark very easily. This ideology must be practiced very carefully, if at all.

A false choice.

This is part of the dying witchcraft of Alinskyism trying to polarize normal Americans.

Nationalism is often equated with jingoism, as is patriotism, usually by the left. They are not synonymous.

Nationalism and patriotism aren’t nearly as capable of the darkness brought routinely by collectivism and statism.

Wrong question, because nationalism is the highest form of patriotism.

Of course. The preservation of our culture and maintaining our ability to govern ourselves is a very bad thing... if you are our enemy.

Neocons are constantly trying to frame the debate and define the terms of discussion to smear and marginalize those who think America is a nation-state rather than merely a geographic region governed by a “proposition.”

It’s a tactic to disarm those against mass third-world immigration, which is intended to destroy any sense of the culture, history, tradition and values of Americans as a people.

Have you ever wondered how the Neocons can logically argue for large-scale Islamic immigration into the USA?

The argument rests on America as a nation having no inherent values. If America is a proposition land with no values, then there is nothing to which the belief system of Islam can be held up and measured, even if that belief system includes subjugation of unbelievers by violence, the penalty of death for apostates and blasphemers and permissible lying in the form of taqiyya.

If America itself is not considered to represent any particular set of cultural values, then there can be no objection to the colonization of the USA by those with Islamic values.

This is the argument of the Neocons.

There are differences. Also a lot of overlap.

Think of it in a European perspective. Some nationalists might still be fighting over Alsace-Lorraine or Fiume or Koenigsberg or Transylvania or Nagorno-Karabakh.

For many, "nationalism" meant "my country is better than all the others in every way and entitled to rule over them."

A patriotic love of country meant overcoming some bitter old nationalistic conflicts.

Patriotism vs. nationalism has become a cliche -- everything bad is labeled "nationalism" and what's good is labled "patriotism" -- but the distinction's not without some validity.

If you like you can refer to "good nationalism" and "bad nationalism."

Not sure. My Nation has been torn to pieces. I guess I’m just out for my tribe now.
