Solar is a great idea in Australia - lots of people are getting panels on their homes and selling excess power back into the system. Not so many getting battery backups yet, but I can see that becoming more popular.
And wind has its place as well.
But you need electricity when the wind isn’t blowing and the sun isn’t shining. And the SA government seems to be dropping the ball on that in a big way.

You could always use the energy for producing synthetic fuels that can be made available on demand, rather than foolishly using it in applications where demand is immediate and continuous.
